Crack sealing is a routine maintenance treatment that will delay road deterioration by sealing moisture out of the pavement. The life of the road is extended and overall maintenance costs are reduced.

Chip-Seal is the most economical way the City has found to keep the streets sealed and in good condition. The streets are currently set on a seven-year rotation. Crack-Fill is usually performed on the streets that are to be Chip-Sealed the winter and Spring prior to the Chip-Seal process.

Streets are swept approximately 6 times from spring through fall and on an as-needed basis. The Streets/Parks Department is charged with this duty.

The 2003 Street Inventory and Condition Study was completed and presented to City Council on July 16, 2003. The study contained a rating for all City streets based on roadway surface criteria. For the last three years the City of Cornelius has participated with Washington County's Slurry Seal program to extend the life of the wearing surface of city streets five to seven years. Slurry seal is a thin layer of asphalt emulsion mixed with crushed rock. This mixture is applied to the existing street surface and is ready for traffic in five to seven hours.

Crack is the street name given to the freebase form of cocaine that has been processed from the powdered cocaine hydrochloride form to a smokable substance. The term "crack" refers to the crackling sound heard when the mixture is smoked. Crack cocaine is processed with ammonia or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and water, and heated to remove the hydrochloride. Parking on the city streets is enforced by the Stevens Point Police Department, and all questions need to be directed to that agency (715-346-1500). Signs on the streets explain the regulations for those areas, but differ by location. There is no parking on the streets from 2am-6am, which means no overnight parking. Concrete, like all other materials, will slightly change in volume when it dries out. In typical concrete this change amounts to about 500 millionths. Translated into dimensions-this is about 1/16 of an inch in 10 feet (.4 cm in 3 meters). The reason that contractors put joints in concrete pavements and floors is to allow the concrete to crack in a neat, straight line at the joint when the volume of the concrete changes due to shrinkage.

Canned food can safely be recanned if the unsealed jar is discovered within 24 hours. To re-can, remove the lid and check the jar sealing surface for tiny nicks. Change the jar; if necessary, add a new treated lid and reprocess using the same processing time.

My concern is that the crack seal material could have a negative reaction with the new surface material. crack sealing prior to rehabilitation is a good idea. The majority of complaints concerning crack sealer problems arise when an excess of material is left on the surface of the pavement either due to overfilling or expansion of the sealant. The best method to treat cracks is to route a vessel 5/8" x 5/8" or 3/4" x 3/4" and use a modified joint sealer, and careful not to overfill the joint.

If the City plow damages my driveway, curb or grass boulevard, who is responsible for restoring them.

No. Again the city mandates that Chapman Constituents (students, faculty, staff or visitors) park in Chapman owned or operated parking areas. Anyone found parking in the neighborhood lots or city streets, exept when doing business with the city; are subject to citation, fine, conduct and/or disciplinary action.

The first streets plowed are the main thoroughfares, followed by secondary streets. Cul-de-sacs are generally plowed last and are often done by outside contractors when snow is heavy or long hours have been worked. Shoveling snow from driveways onto the street is illegal and cars parked on the street when snowfall is over 2" can be ticketed and towed since they impede plowing.

The degree of cracking (or "checking" as it is called by carvers) that occurs in a carving really depends on several things. First it depends on the amount of moisture in the log. If the log is freshly cut, it retains a great deal of the original moisture of the tree. It may take years for the wood to dry out. Most logs dry at about 1 inch per year. So a fresh cut log that is 18 inches in diameter may take up to 8 or 9 years to completely dry.

Almost every untrained singer experiences "voice breaks".
