Some are and some are not. We do not discriminate on the basis of hearing. Our bottom line criteria for taking a dog into the rescue is aggression. We do not take people aggressive dogs or dogs that have bitten. Aggression has nothing to do with deafness.

Absolutely. Rescued dogs make great companions. They are just as trainable as a pure breed dog. Even if they have been abused mentally or physically in their previous life, we can bring out their true personality with the training program.

She was several years old and very afraid of people. The vet said she may have been badly abused as a puppy. I talked to her all the way home, where I introduced her to my two other dogs, showed her around the house, then took the leash off. She immediately ran into the spare room and hid behind the rocking chair.

One of the most important things you can do to help is volunteer your time. STAF has many needs which individuals and groups can meet by periodically volunteering their time to the welfare of animals. STAF is an all-volunteer organization, and we could really use your help. There are many opportunities to share your knowledge and experience, your time and your talent. Working together, we can help so many more animals.

Every user's experience is different, but many report that they are able to locate the direction sounds are coming from, and almost all can put a telephone to the dead ear and hear the dial tone. In quiet conditions, most can carry on a phone conversation using the aided ear, and whispers can usually be heard from the TransEar side.

Many, not all, Klee Kai are aggressive toward other dogs unless they are well socialized as puppies. These dogs will tend to pick up the characteristics of an older dog if raised around one.

Our Airedales come from owners who can no longer care for their Airedale, usually because of health or financial reasons or because of a lack of time for a dog, or from shelters where the Airedale has either been turned in by its owner or was a stray. All Airedales entering our program are evaluated medically and for temperament to the best of our ability.

Not always. In most cases, the damage to the data is permanent. However, it rarely happens that no data can be retrieved from the affected media. In fact, the amount of data that can be rescued from the affected media depends on the amount of permanent damage to the media.

Most come to the HELP League from shelters. Some have been surrendered to the shelters by their owners and others have been picked up as strays. As a rule, we only accept dogs directly from their owners under exceptional circumstances (for example, the owner's serious illness prevents them from caring for their pet).

It has been said there are three different kinds of deaf ministries. 1) An interpreting ministry, 2) A Deaf teaching ministry, 3) A Deaf church ministry. Each has its own benefits. Some areas cannot support a Deaf church. Other areas tend to shun an interpreting only ministry. It is important to work toward a successful deaf ministry, no matter which type it is.

Deaf people tend to share common involves behavior, values, beliefs, and world views, even though they may come from different backgrounds. Deaf-blindness is defined as concomitant hearing and visual impairments, the combination of which causes such severe communication and other developmental and educational needs that they cannot be accommodated in special education programs solely for children with deafness or children with blindness.

We have responded to several whales at the spot where they stranded who weighed many tons. The most famous of these was Humphrey. The largest animal we have brought into The Center was a subadult Steller sea lion named Simba picked up from Anchor Bay Campground, Mendocino County on July 16, 1992. Simba weighed 1041 pounds. Unfortunately, Simba was very sick and died shortly after rescue. Occasionally, we have rescued an adult northern elephant seal weighing over 700 pounds.

The smallest animal we have rescued was a six-pound northern fur seal named Doug from Humboldt county on March 26, 1993. Unfortunately, Doug was extremely emaciated when he was rescued and did not survive. Generally, every year several fur seal pups, often weighing as little as 10-15 pounds, strand throughout The Center's rescue range. An increase in strandings of fur seal pups in the fall has become an indicator of an upcoming El Niño event.

Les: It's fairly anticlimactic. The crew gets me back to civilization, and I shower, pack and fly home. Some years ago I enjoyed the ECO challenge type expedition racing. As time passed it seemed it became more a battan death march than a challenge. What are your feelings about this kind of event? Oh, by the way, sounds like you play a mean mouth harp.

If an unfortunate incident occurs such as flight delays, illness and bad weather on any part of the trekking route and rescue evacuation is required, our well trained and experienced guides will provide every assistance to you. We coordinate our service with a recognised private helicopter company and the Royal Nepalese army in the case of emergency rescue.

A rescued Havanese is one which is relinquished by its owner for a variety of reasons, ended up in a shelter as a stray, often family members may not have the time to spend with the dog, or the death or illness of its owner may occur which results in the Hav no longer having a home, or a puppy mill. Often a Havanese is sold through a pet store that is only interested in a sale. Without regard for the cost and responsibilities of maintaining this breed, the new family buys the dog on a whim.

They do love to dig, and also shed, so if you want to judge them on those characteristics, yes, they can be messy. However, their double coat seems to repel dirt to a certain degree, and they have less "doggy odor" than most other breeds. Also, an Anatolian should have tight flews with a correspondingly "dry" mouth, so drooling is seldom a problem. If you want a really neat dog, though, the Anatolian is not for you.

There are many reasons why a dog bites. Dogs bite out of fear or to protect their territory or to establish their dominance over the person bitten. Some owners mistakenly teach their dogs that biting is an acceptable form of play behavior. And every year a number of newborn infants die when they are bitten by dogs who see them as "prey.

This is less of a problem than it used to be, especially on the Camino Francés, where the local dogs are by now entirely used to seeing pilgrims pass. But in France generally, and on the other Spanish routes, where dogs are generally kept to protect farms and flocks, it is as well to be wary.

Dogs have the ability to sweat, but in places that are a little different from humans. Dogs sweat through their pads and feet. Their skin and armpit areas don't contain sweat glands like ours do. Their main method of ridding themselves from heat, however, is by panting, which is a very different mechanism than what we generally use. For these reasons, we must take great care to protect our dogs from heat stroke.

If your animals are kept inside your home there is no limit as long as you can properly care for them. If you have dogs that reside outside in your yard and you live in a residential area on less than half an acre you cannot have more than three outdoor dogs. If you live on more than a half an acre but less than two acres, you are not allowed to have more than seven outdoor dogs. Section 91.

The OFA will re-evaluate animals as often as the owner likes. However, the re-evaluation must be based on a new set of radiographs. All consensus evaluations on a given radiograph submission are final.

We currently do not show any of our boxers. However, most of our boxers do have champion bloodlines. We constantly strive to produce quality, healthy boxers bred to compliment or exceed the breed standard.

It is acceptable to do one of the following; gently tap the individual on the shoulder, wave one's hand toward the Deaf person, call out in a low tone, or stomping a foot that causes a vibration. Unfortunately, a Deaf person will only get about 33% of what you are saying. Even this requires that the individual be an excellent lip reader, which most Deaf individuals are not. For the average Deaf individual that percentage is much lower.
