The Tobacco Treatment Program offers in-person behavioral counseling and tobacco-cessation pharmacological treatment to M. D. Anderson patients who are current tobacco users. The program also provides relapse-prevention counseling to recent quitters (within the last 12 months).

The Tobacco Treatment Program is a voluntary program offering free counseling and pharmacological treatment to M. D. Anderson patients who are current tobacco users or recent quitters (within the past 12 months).

The program consists of an extensive network of providers including psychologists, counselors and a psychiatrist. These professionals will offer tobacco cessation services through the program. The Tobacco Treatment Program staff also will work closely with the patient's attending physician to best coordinate the patient's care.

The Tobacco Treatment Program services will be provided primarily in the Behavioral Research and Treatment Center, located on the second floor of the Cancer Prevention Building. Directions to the Behavioral Research and Treatment Center can be obtained through Access Wayfinding.

CAPS psychiatrists and counselors can provide treatment and medication for students with ADD/ADHD. If you have been diagnosed with this condition, you must bring in medical documentation confirming this diagnosis. This documentation is essential because of the high risk of potential abuse for many of the drugs used to treat ADD/ADHD. You will be scheduled for an assessment, first with a counselor, and then with a psychiatrist to work with you on medication.

Patients receiving their primary cancer care from a M. D. Anderson physician (For example, individuals who visit M. D. Anderson only for a second opinion are not eligible for the program.)
