steel is right on the border between a medium and a high carbon steel, with a carbon content between 0.50%-0.60% and with manganese between 0.60%-0.90% as the only other component. Normally equivalent vacuum tubes such as a 6J5 or 6J5GT or 6J5G are electronically the same. They may have a different construction, i.e. metal versus glass, or a different glass shape. They will perform the same. Substitute vacuum tubes are not exactly the same electronically but will perform the same in most circuits.
