For sound you need an instrument and a 'musician' (in the broadest sense of these words). If you like to hear a piano sound, you need to have a piano and someone playing it. MIDI isn't really sound! MIDI is a bunch of commands that tell a compatible sound module or sound card which sounds it has to generate. Although this seems to be rather complicated if you consider a whole piece of music, the amount of data that's necessary to do this is incredibly much less than in an audio recording of the same sound! The MIDI file is about 500 times smaller than a CD quality recording of the sound that the sound module generates.

MP3 has better sound quality than MIDI. MP3 may also contain background vocals, which MIDI cannot have.

Many Internet users prefer MP3 over uncompressed wave as it is more compressed for a fast upload / download speeds. iLipSync can generate talking characters using with MP3 or uncompressed wave files. MP3 is the music industry standard for compressed audio. MP3 uses a compression method that strips extra bits off of an audio file. MP3 files encoded at a higher bit rate have better sound quality, and generally, good quality MP3s sound the same as CD-Quality Audio. FLAC, on the other hand, is a lossless compression method that works similar to Zip. Lossless audio compression means that, while the file is made smaller, there is no loss of audio data in the process.

Some programs do allow you to convert single tones (monophonic instruments and such) to a midi data, but as far as converting complex recordings and arrangements, currently, it hasn't been done. The first person who comes up with an accurate way to convert complex audio recordings into midi will be rich though (maybe), and will need to adopt me as their son.

To convert songs on CDs into MP3 files, you can use ripper and encoder software. The encoder compresses the song into the MP3 format. ? You can use? the? CD ripper software that came with your MP3 player or opt to use other ripping and encoding software.

MP3s, in their simplest description, could be described as songs - they can be any type of sound recording that you like, but lets think of them as songs. An MP3 Player, in its simplest description could be described as a 'stereo' - a box that plays music. The MP3 Player (the stereo), plays the MP3s (the songs).

Please try to copy the orignal MIDI to a simple folder and rename the file to a simple one like "c:\test1\exam1.mid". Then please also set the output MP3's path and file name to a simple one like "c:\test2\exam2.mp3". When this done, try it again.

If the question is: Is it possible to have the computer 'convert' a WAVE file to a MIDI file in such a way that the MIDI file (when played back) sounds like the original WAVE file? The answer is: NO! A MIDI file is a sequence of commands to control one or more pieces of equipment (synthesizers most of the time). These commands are not sounds, they are recorded operations to DO something (mostly to GENERATE sound). A WAVE file IS sound. It is the recording of a sound wave.

If you want the WAVE file to sound exactly like the MIDI file when you play it using your MIDI equipment, then you can use this method: Open up an application to play the MIDI file AND open up an application which will allow you to record the piece as a WAVE file. Hit 'record' on the WAVE application and 'play' on the MIDI player. Beware though that you will need a computer that is fast enough to have both programs running without interruption.

A - scuzzphut, NAS, Mikael Adle, DDummer - Drag-and-drop of midi clips and wav audio *is* supported, through the built-in browser (press F3) and works fairly well. There are some niggles (midi clips always import by creating a new track) but otherwise it's very well implemented. With eXT as a VSTi in Logic, drag/drop works from eXT to Logic, both audio and midi files. It works in Tracktion too, but not in in Cubase SL 2.0 and in Sonar right now.

Yes, in most cases you can. However, different systems may require different recording source settings. There are several ways to play a midi file. Most sound cards are capable of midi synthesis through special on-board hardware. Some midi players are capable of software midi synthesis (e.g. RealPlayer with the Crescendo plug-in). There are also some special drivers (e.g. Yamaha SXG) that provide software midi synthesis.

Sound files, such as WAV, VOC and AU files, consist of what is called "waveform data." Sound is propagated in sound waves, which are (in simple terms) waves of variation in air pressure caused by physical phenomena such as vibrating vocal cords, the vibrations of the reed as air flows through a flute, aircraft breaking the sound barrier, or anything else that produces sound. Waveform data means a digital representation of those sound waves.

This depends on the type of machine you are using and how its software is configured. In many cases you can simply click on the link filename to download the file but in some cases this will just play the file. Another technique is to use right-click with the mouse on the file link. In most cases this will open a menu and you can select "Save Target As..." to save the file. Save it to your desktop or any floppy or hard disk.

AMP's goal is to preserve tracked modules and not any streamed music. Some sites already take care of those formats and they do it very well. There is no connection between those formats and tracked music so having them for download wouldn't bring anything important to the tracked music history of a certain composer.

Not that we wouldn't like to listen to your latest tracks but there is no chance they would ever appear on AMP. If you really want us to listen to them, all you have to do is burn a CD/DVD rom and post it to Crown.

No, you may not. You can link to a page but not to a file. Linking directly to a file is considered bandwidth stealing.

If you buy the professional registration for MadTracker, you will get an extra plugin that enables you to export your own songs to high quality wave files. These values refer to the surface accuracy specification for the polished substrate of a mirror. Surface Accuracy describes the maximum allowable deviation of an optical surface from a perfect surface. If the mirror were flat, the value would give a reference as to "how flat".
