UNC began the self-study process in August. A steering committee is guiding the activities of subcommittees that are gathering data and drafting the self-study, a process that takes several months. A final report will be submitted to the NCAA in May 2006 and an NCAA review team will conduct a campus visit in Fall 2006. A final decision on UNC’s certification status will be made public by the NCAA most likely in Spring 2007.

All Lycoming athletic programs are Division III. We compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference which includes schools throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Coastal competes in the NCAA Division I and is a founding member of the Big South Conference. Chanticleer football competes at the NCAA I-AA level.

Perhaps the most encompassing reason is that UC Davis just does not fit in Division II anymore. We are six times bigger than the average Division II university, and Division-II colleges and universities have much smaller programs and do not match up well with us as conference teams. In our new all-California conference, the Big West, we play against other UC teams and some of the best of the CSUs, and the academic requirements are more demanding. We're in a better place.
