Highlights from the IPCC Working Group I Summary for Policymakers of "Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis" Below are some of the key statements in the Summary for Policymakers from Working Group I of the 2007 IPCC Fourth Assessment Report. The summary was released on Friday, February 2, 2007, and is available on the IPCC Web site, along with the full working group and synthesis reports (see box at right). Some indices have a range of uncertainty, given in parentheses.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a watchdog environmental organization, has been conducting environmental investigations since 1993. A Special Interest Group is a sanctioned group that meets under the auspices of HL7 but is not authorized to write and ballot draft chapters. The home healthcare SIG, for example, is a group that meets to discuss the application of HL7 to home healthcare and to provide coordinated input into the work of the various chapters. The Consortium's formal role is to review the formation, charter, progress and results of working group. Informally we act as individuals to provide a lot of advice and encouragement. Getting public comment and participation from the www-vrml@web3d.org mail list is HIGHLY recommended. That is the process that has made VRML strong.

A Working Group (WG) session is an open forum. This means that anyone can join and take part as an equal. You do not have to be a member of the RIPE NCC to join in discussions. RIPE Working Groups deal with various issues and topics related to the work of its members and the Internet community. Each Working Group has a mailing list where topics related to the group are discussed between RIPE Meetings.

It depends on the class. Students in Digital Video Editing and Screenwriting work solo. Students in Art of Filmmaking and Shooting Digital Video do both group and solo work. Students in Documentary Production work in groups. Most students find working in a small group and the experience of collaborating with class members to be very beneficial, as classmates can crew and grow their creative ideas together. top

An (unpaid) summer internship may be eligible for credit. The academic guidelines are the same as during the academic year. To earn credit during the summer, a student must oficially enroll for the summer term and pay tuition. Independent Studies courses are assessed by the credit hour using the rate in effect for full-time students during the upcoming academic year. Check the summer bulletin for the precise amount. Credit can only be earned for the term in which the work was done.

Instead of paying summer associates on the basis of a per week salary, we will pay summer associates on the basis of a per summer salary which will be comparable to the amounts paid by other firms for their programs. Spending a summer in the laboratory in which you are going to do an independent study project is a great idea and is strongly encouraged. There are also some great research opportunities at other universities - if you can bear the thought of being away from Providence for the summer. You can get information on applying for summer research fellowships from Dean Thompson's office in Arnold.

A Technical Committee, often called a "chapter committee" is the basic specification-writing entity in HL7. Its members are charged with developing and balloting proposed chapters in the HL7 specification. For example, the ADT/Finance committee writes chapters 3 (ADT) and 6 (Finance.) One special Technical Committee which does not write a chapter is the "QA/Data Modeling Committee.

The main reason you should join the Working Group is to support the effort. Membership fees are the primary source of funds that support the work of writing, publishing, and providing information about the Standard. Joining as an individual members is the cheapest way to get a copy of the spec and the only way to get the implementation guide. It is possible to buy the spec at the same price without becoming a member.
