The practical driving test may be undertaken at any time provided that you meet the relevant age/experience criteria. If you are undertaking instruction with Brisbane Driving School, your driving test booking will be organised for you. Otherwise, to arrange the practical test you will need to pay a booking test fee at a Queensland Transport Customer Service Centre. Once this fee has been paid, you can then book a driving test at your nearest Queensland Transport Office.

There is no longer a requirement to have a learners permit to upgrade your drivers licence, however you must meet the age and comply with the necessary driving criteria for each heavy vehicle class. If you are unsure that you meet the requirements, you will need to seek advice from a Queensland Transport Customer Service Centre.

The Federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) (Form 2290) is assessed on vehicles weighing 55,000 lbs. or more. This tax must be paid to the IRS before registering with IRP and proof of payment is required at the time of IRP registration. The following are acceptable to show of proof-of-payment: A copy of the IRS Schedule (Form 2290) with a copy of a document showing proof of payment, such as the front and back of a cancelled check.

Currently heavy vehicles have the choice of personalised yellow or black plates or personalised plus custom yellow plates. The RTA is considering new options for release in the future. Before the registration expires, you can simply transfer these plates to another vehicle registered in your name or place the plates in storage at a motor registry.

Heavy Duty vehicles are defined as vehicles having a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 8,500 pounds or more as noted on the doorjamb of the vehicle. Our brand new (pre-registered) vehicles will include 6 or 12 months Road Fund Licence. With used vehicles we are unable to supply the vehicles with tax therefore, you must have an insurance cover note, along with the green part of the V5 (Logbook) to obtain tax at the post office.

Your tax disc will be sent to your home address at the relevant time each year. If for whatever reason it is not received please phone us immediately on 01189 538 600 and we will arrange for a replacement to be sent to you. If your licence has just expired you may continue to use the vehicle for up to 14 days after its expiry but within that period you must have applied for a new one to run from the day after the last one expired.

The LW4 barrier is crash rated to absorb up to 300 kJ of impact energy, although it is designed to absorb more. 300 kJ equates to a standard passenger vehicle (approx 1.3 tonnes) travelling at 80 kph, or an 8-tonne truck traveling at 30kph. As impact energy is a function of mass x speed, then a combination of vehicle sizes and speeds can be captured by the barrier.

Only if your truck has a gross weight or combination weight of 55,000 pounds or more are you required to pay attention to this tax.
