Continuing education became mandatory January 1, 1995. Every year, dentists must complete 15 hours and hygienists must complete 6 hours. In addition, every licensee is required to maintain current CPR certification. The number of hours completed each year is reported on the license renewal form and no documentation of course work should be sent to the Board’s office.

Accredited and Professional members are required to submit continuing education hours. Candidates and any of the other classifications can send in their hours to us, but it is not necessary for them to do so. We will file their education in their member's files.

Courses which are not approved by TDLR as continuing education courses can not be used for license renewal. If the college course is a TDLR approved continuing education course, then the course hours can be used for license renewal. However, the courses must be taken during the period of the license being renewed.

No, a licensee shall be exempt from continuing education requirements for the first annual renewal following the date of initial licensure. Upon written request from the licensee explaining the circumstances, the Board may grant an exemption or waiver in cases of certified illness or undue hardship. All Florida appraisers must complete 30 hours of continuing education for each two-year license, registration, or certification period. That depends upon how long your license has been inactive. Although there is no requirement to obtain continuing education during the inactive period, a licensee must show completion of an equal amount of continuing education for each license period to activate that license. It is a credential that you can use to prove your experience and education. Continuing Education Units aren't the same as university credit.

Students who are interested in earning university Continuing Education Units will pay for the cost of CEUs ($25 per CEU) to The University of Southern Mississippi (Southern Miss). Students will register and pay for the SEM Training through the Academy and pay for the CEUs separately to USM.
