More than a dozen theories have been put forward to explain the NDE and its associated physical mechanisms, but none of them singly or together fits all cases.

Although most people who have come close to death say they remember nothing, a third or more may later report that "something happened." That "something" might be a near-death experience (NDE). There are several scientific theories to explain the NDE, including the theory that consciousness survives death. There are also many factors that can trigger a NDE. No two NDEs are exactly identical, but within a number of experiences a pattern becomes evident.

It is as if the other person has returned from a country you have never visited and cannot even imagine. The best thing you can do is listen. Simply being with the person and letting him talk will be more helpful than you may think; you are not expected to have answers or opinions. There are many interpretations of near-death experiences, and only the individual can decide the meaning of his/her particular experience.

The Near-Death Experience is a type of forced out-of-body experience (OBE) caused by organic traumas, and/or physical, chemical or psychological agents. It commonly occurs in cases of terminal illnesses, or situations which involve moments of great risk to the physical body, such as accidents, electrocutions, surgery, suffocations, drownings, etc.

Thousands who have narrowly escaped death, or even clinically died and then come back to life, have reported NDEs. Typically they report leaving their physical bodies (OBE), experiencing a life review, traveling through a tunnel towards a bright light, meeting deceased friends and relatives, encountering a spiritual being, and then returning to their physical bodies.

Respiratory and cardiac conditions seemed to be the most likely causes of death: heart and lung problems, pneumonia of various types, strokes, heart rhythm abnormalities or sudden cardiac arrest, and so on. Ascending polyneuropathy killed some persons (ascending paralysis). Obviously, if the eosinophil count was not brought down, it could lead to death. Not being an expert, I can't explain how that process occurred. A few persons also committed suicide in the acute phase of EMS.

Kidney failure was once the main cause of death. When the drug allopurinol is properly used to decrease serum uric acid the kidney damage is significantly slowed . Allopurinol has been in use for over twenty years and renal failure is no longer the leading cause of death. There have been no systematic surveys to determine the more recent causes of death. It is impression that some of the deaths may lack a specificity of cause.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in California and the United States. In 2003, 23 percent of all California deaths were due to cancer, compared to 29 percent due to heart disease, the leading cause of death, and 7 percent due to stroke, the third leading cause of death. However, cancer has surpassed heart disease as the leading cause of death for Americans under the age of 85.

Dying is like shutting down a large factory filled with engines and assembly lines and giant boilers. Everything does not suddenly go quiet when the "off" switch is pushed. Instead, the machinery creaks and moans as it slows to a halt. Unless suddenly felled by an accident, a heart attack, or other sudden trauma, most of our bodies are like those factories, creaking and moaning as they shut down. It can be difficult to remember that the winding-down process is natural.

Much publicity has recently been given to research on near-death experiences (NDEs), experiences of those who survive a close encounter with death. More people now survive close brushes with death. The near-death experience has been defined as the 'experiential counterpart of the physiological transition to biological death' [Sab82]: it is the record of conscious experience from the inside rather than the outside, from the point of view of the subject rather the spectator.

Heart disease - The American Heart Association states that over one million Americans are suffering from heart disease and 500,000 die each year, and the rates are increasing. Cancer - 600,000 Americans die each year of cancer, and 1 out of 2 1/2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The lead- ing cause of death for children under eighteen is cancer, and the rate is up 5 1/4%. Diabetes kills 600,000 Americans yearly and 80% of those are from being over weight.

According to Marc Scott Taylor as accurate as can be humanly possible for a TV show. Taylor, QME technical assistant and actor, admits that it wasn't always easy getting the right person to handle the medical equipment and procedures in an accurate representation. But if a removal and dissection of a lung or liver during part of an autopsy was filmed, writers and prop people would use a something the approximate size and shape of a liver for on-camera shooting in the lab.

A seaman’s cause of action does not die with the seaman. Benefits are available to the surviving spouse and children. A personal representative of the seaman’s estate can bring a claim against the employer.

The death rate of kids (0 to six months) can be as high as 40%. The natural death rate of older animals is thought to be about 10% per year. The major causes of death besides human control and losses due to lack of water and food during drought are predation by wild dogs and foxes, toxic plants such as those that produce fluoroacetate (1080) and various diseases and parasites.

Following transmission by an infected mosquito, West Nile virus multiples in the horse's blood system and crosses the blood brain barrier infecting the brain. The virus interferes with normal central nervous system functioning and causes inflammation of the brain.

We don't know. It is possible. But there are no supporting data that allow us to answer this question definitively. GHB should not be taken with any substance that acts as a CNS depressant. In other words, it should not be taken with alcohol, tranquilizers (benzodiazepines), sedatives (barbiturates), or opiates (morphine, heroin, etc.). While GHB does not seriously suppress respiration by itself, CNS depressants do.

Most sudden cardiac deaths are caused by abnormal heart rhythms called arrhythmias. The most common life-threatening arrhythmia is ventricular fibrillation, which is an erratic, disorganized firing of impulses from the ventricles. When this occurs, the heart is unable to pump blood and death will occur within minutes, if left untreated.

Disease--mainly small pox. The prison officials took efforts to contain the disease and vaccinated against it as far as possible but there were still several severe outbreaks. All the other typical illnesses common to the era also affected the prisoners. There is little evidence that lack of food or safe water (by 1860's standards) was ever a major problem. When inspections revealed poor food or lack of food steps were taken to correct the situation.

Until now, we haven't sufficient data to tell the most common causes of death. We will investigate that.

For deaths identified as Indigenous in 2000-2002, cardiovascular disease (which includes heart disease and stroke) was the leading cause of death for Indigenous males and females living in Qld, WA, SA and the NT, with rates at least 3.2 and 2.8 times those of males and females of the total population [4].

Vaccination is not the cause of cot death – however, various studies demonstrate that vaccination is a cot death risk factor. The way in which vaccination increases the risk of cot death is as follows: Any circumstance which reduces the efficiency of a baby's immune system, or which causes the baby to have a higher than normal body temperature, will make the baby more likely to succumb to the gaseous poisoning which causes cot death.

Certainly this is a very popular interpretation, although there is no "proof" in a statistical sense and no consensus on what this may mean. A more cautious expression is that near-death experiences suggest that some aspect of human consciousness may continue after physical death. At this time, no one can demonstrate whether this is true.

People who report near-death experiences are no better or worse – and no more or less religious – than in any other cross-section of the population. They come from many religious backgrounds and from the ranks of agnostics and even atheists. The experience seems more closely related to a person's life afterwards than to what it was before.

Continue giving narcotics and pain medicines in as prescribed even if the patient appears to be in a coma. Ask the doctor what pills can be stopped so that the least number of pills need to be given. Ask if any pills can be crushed and mixed in a small amount of liquid or in soft substances such as jam & honey, to make them easier to swallow. Enquire about alternative means of administering a medicine if the patient cannot swallow.

When a person has a near-death experience and almost dies, their consciousness leaves their body and they have awareness of the nonphysical levels. The reality of this is often very profound, something they cannot forget or deny even when their consciousness returns to this physical level. For this reason, a near-death experience can often give a person a much greater perspective, and they see that there is much more than just this physical life.
