I prefer to shoot digitally, but will shoot 35mm upon request. Please keep in mind that 35mm film is more expensive and it may affect your package price. It is much easier and quicker to modify digital photographs (into black and white, sepia, etc.) than it is to shoot with 35mm and then convert.

Digital photography is just as good if not better than 35 mm photography. Prints for digital images make beautiful enlargements up to 20 x 30 inches. Digital photography is useful when you will require enlargements larger than 11x14 inches in size. Otherwise, if you are expecting to have enlargements no larger than 11x14 you do not need digital photographs. Both 35mm & digital photographs come out 4x6 inches and will produce fine quality reprints and enlargements up to 11x14 inches in size.

Traditional film and digital formats may be used to take pictures for an application. There are considerations with either option. Although disposable cameras are convenient, the lack of an autofocus causes some close-up pictures to be blurry. Additionally, digital cameras with low resolution often produce close-up pictures of poor quality. As a rule of thumb, film cameras should have an autofocus and digital cameras should be 3 mega pixel or greater.

All photos taken before October, 2000 were taken with either a Fuji MX-1200 or a Fuji Finepix 1400. Both of these cameras are 1.3 Megapixel, resulting in low resoultion pictures. All other pictures were photographed using a Nikon Coolpix 990, a 3.34 megapixel camera. I cannot recommend enough Nikon's digital cameras. They were developed with both the amateur and the professional in mind. If you are looking at purchasing a digicam, decide on the features you want before you start shopping.

You can turn in any printed photo that you’ve taken, whether it be regular film, Polaroid, or printouts from a digital camera. We will not accept disks or jump drives or things like that – each picture must be its own item, submitted with the rest of the packet. We recommend the photo be big enough that we can see what it is, so we can give you points. We simply love giving points.

We can accept 35mm slides of artwork, but we do not recommend them. Print sizes will most likely be limited to smaller sizes. Whenever possible, have us direct-scan the painting, or provide a 4"x5" or 8"x10" transparency.
