While we strongly recommend using OWA from off-campus, you can configure Outlook 2003 for access. Select the Connection tab, and check the box next to "Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP" Click the Exchange Proxy Settings button, and enter mail.bsd.uchicago.edu in the "https://" field.

The MS Outlook client is the recommended and supported method to access the email accounts via faculty and staff owned computers (permanently assigned computers). Outlook Web Access is the recommended method for accessing email accounts from personally owned computers, on campus shared computers, student computer labs, and off-campus computers.

While Outlook supports the generic POP protocol, MIT uses a more secure version which incorporates the Kerberos authentication system. This protocol is often referred to as kPOP for short. Outlook does not support Kerberos authentication or kPOP. However, you can easily configure Outlook to mimic the POP behavior of copying messages from the mail server to your local Inbox, even if you are using the newer IMAP protocol.
