Water contains minerals that are left behind when the water is heated or evaporates. These minerals, as well as the drinking water, are safe. However, they can leave spots on glassware such as coffee pots and shower doors, which are commonly referred to as "hard water stains". The spots can also be caused by the over use of some dish detergents.

There is a percolator coffee pot for use on the gas stove. There are basket filter papers & it uses regular ground coffee. I like it just as well as the fancy machine we have in our regular home. Put the coffee in, fill with water, set on stove, & turn burner on high. Once it starts percolating (about 4 minutes) it will quickly turn brown. Leave percolating for about 1 minute, turn off the burner, and let sit for about 2 minutes to drain. Remove the basket of grounds & enjoy.

The floating residue is generally small calcium carbonate particles with enough trapped air to allow them to float. They can come from the natural insolubles in the product or be formed by pH or total alkalinity levels that are too high. Operating the pump for longer periods should remove the residue through the skimmer. Check to see that the weir flap on the skimmer is functioning properly to prevent any skimmer residue from returning to the pool.

A white residue can be caused by hard water. While not a health issue, hard water may affect the ability of soaps and detergents to lather. Water that leaves a white residue should be tested for dissolved solids, total hardness and/or calcium

The white residue is cured volatized cyanoacrylate that settles back down on the part. This is especially true when using standard Ethyl cyanoacrylates. CA PLUS offers 2 families of cyanoacrylates that will reduce or eliminate this problem: Low Odor/Low Bloom and No Odor/No Bloom cyanoacrylates. This whitening has no effect on the bond strength and using an acetone or CA PLUS Debonder wipe will get rid of the residue.

If you wish, you may use low-fat or skim milk or small amounts of half and half in your coffee or tea. You may also use artificial sweeteners such as Equal if desired.

It is seldom necessary to brown meat before cooking in the slow cooker. Some people prefer the appearance of meat if it is browned first. Very fatty meats such as rib should be browned to remove some of the fat and then added to the slow cooker.

The white residue is salt. It usually means that the pull strap was not dried completely when the unit was maintained and the water evaporated. We recommend that the strap is wiped with alcohol to ensure that it is completely dry.

Most coffee brewing systems have an optimum brewing capacity. It is almost always necessary to use a bit more coffee in relationship to water when brewing smaller amounts. The proper softening of beans can depend on the age and moisture content of the beans and the hardness of water used. One should always store coffee beans in a glass, air tight container. Air is coffee's principle enemy. Glass is best because it doesn't retain the odors of the beans or the oils, which could contaminate future beans stored in the same container. However, if you use glass, make sure the container is not exposed to light, as sunlight is believed to reduce freshness.
