All volunteers are advised to contact the Ghanaian High Commission or Consulate before travel to Ghana . Most of western passport holders receive 30 days visa stamp upon arrival. If you decide to stay longer than this, you can extend your visa after you arrive. Extension is obtained from the immigration department. Global Crossroad suggests that ALL volunteers acquire the tourist visa in their home country BEFORE arriving in-country to avoid any unnecessary hassles at the airport.

Take sensible precautions but be assured it is quite safe. However, corruption is absolutely rampant. There are police checkpoints everywhere and the cops usually just want money.

The Foundation Fighting Blindness maintains a computerized National Registry to identify and collect medical and family histories of people in the U.S. with retinal degenerative diseases. Participants who complete a Registry questionnaire may also give permission to The Foundation to release their names to researchers for Foundationapproved studies. Many of the patients who will participate in future clinical studies will be identified in this way. A Registry form is included with this packet.

There are several books about Ghana in different languages. Some good guides in English include: Guide to Ghana by Philip Briggs (BRADT Publications), Lonely Planet West Africa, Ghana by Patricia Levy, and African Spirituality: On Becoming Ancestors by Anthony Ephirim-Donkor. You might also want to think about reading a Ghanaian novel. A highly popular and recommended one is Changes by Ama Ata Aidoo.

Yeas, at least you need communicative English language and high school diploma for teaching program and you must be related with medical background for health program. For other program you must have a strong zeal to render your contribution to the projects. Please see our programs.
