The Labs that LABMED helps are found and assisted by local individuals like yourself who found a Lab in need and couldn't turn away. These Labs are fostered, loved, and treated by these folks locally. We provide our applicants with information, grant funds to treat dogs that meet our funding guidelines, and/or emotional support as needed.

Yes, we have lots of cats and kittens who are used to other animals in the foster homes they currently reside in and also some of our shelter residents were in those environments before they came to us. Obviously time and care must be taken to introduce the new kitty to your family and existing pets, but with care and attention to the progress of individual animals, most of our cats will be more than happy to join a home with an existing family pet.

We keep kittens until they are at least 9 weeks old, and often hold them to 12 weeks. Again, our first priority is the kittens' health and well being. Younger kittens are more susceptible to ailments. Kittens that are under 10 weeks old generally do not retract their claws well, resulting in behavior such as climbing legs and curtains. We can never know in advance if two animals will get along. No, we are unable to guarantee housetraining. We will be honest about the Pug's progress in this area. Once the Pug has learned the doggie door at our foster homes, we usually will look for a home with a doggie door. To place the Pug in a home without a doggie door may cause confusion and create a housetraining problem. Any Pug can be housetrained with a bit of effort. We look for families that are willing to work through this issue. No, we have placed many Pugs in condos and apartments.

Choosing a dog that you will commit sometimes 10-12 yrs of your life is a very personal decision, and not one that should be made for you, no matter how well intentioned the thought may be. We suggest instead, wrapping up a box filled with dog goodies ? bowls, leashes, toys along with a special card saying you'd like to sponsor their adoption of a dog of their choice.
