One of the most common low fare restrictions is the requirement for your stay to incorporate at least one Sunday. For example, for a round-trip New York to Miami a passenger flying Tuesday to Thursday might pay $ 328, but a passenger whose stay includes a Sunday would pay much less - $ 188. The least expensive fares often require advance purchasing - 7, 14, 21, days etc. before departure. You should keep in mind that seats for these cheapest fares are limited.

It all depends on the route you wish to take to Africa. The direct flight from New York to Johannesburg in South Africa is 14 1/2 hours. The flight from Johannesburg to Nairobi is approximately four hours. The flight from Johannesburg to Harare in Zimbabwe is approximately 1 1/2 hours. If you prefer to travel via Europe, it will take you about eight hours from Chicago and eleven to twelve hours from Los Angeles to get to Europe, and another nine hours to Nairobi.

You have two options for your air flights to take you to your embarkation (port) city - you can either purchase the air flights offered by cruise line, or purchase separate air flights (also called "custom" air). Flights purchased from the cruise lines are usually, but not always, less expensive than custom air, and are generally made available about 3 weeks prior to departure.

Upmarket safari lodges and luxury tented camps provide first class accommodations. Rooms have proper beds with mattresses and duvets, en suite (attached, in room) flush toilets, basins and showers with hot and cold running water. Other amenities include mosquito netting, lamps, bottle mineral water, insect repellent, flashlights, wardrobes, and ethnic furnishings. While on a camping safari, facilities are more limited.

Many of the major world airlines such as KLM, British Airways, South African Airways, and Swissair and Kenya Airways fly into East Africa several times a week. SLA does not arrange for international flights but can recommend where to get reasonably priced airline tickets from most major cities in the United States via either Europe (London or Amsterdam) or via South Africa to the starting point of your safari.

In general petty theft does occur in East Africa's major cities and towns. Visitors should take the same care as they would normally take in any other destination worldwide. Keep a close watch on handbags, wallets, and cameras when walking in crowded places. Avoid walking at night and place valuables in safe deposit boxes at hotels. While at safari lodges and tented camps you are typically far removed from human settlement and crime is virtually non existent.

Shopping while on safari is limited. Often lodges and camps have small curio shops where you can buy postcards, local goods such as carvings or books, clothing (hats, shirts), and film. At airports and in larger towns you will find African curio markets where you can by all sorts of carvings, masks, drums, jewelry etc...in general souvenirs and curios are inexpensive (in US dollar terms) - still, fun spirited bartering is the norm.

If your cell phone is GSM compatible, your phone will connect to Kenya's cellular system. Service in the cities and near major roads is generally reliable. Service is spotty elsewhere. Those with GSM compatible phones that employ "swappable" SIM cards should consider purchasing a pre-paid SIM card which converts the phone to a local service account. This is a much more affordable option than paying roaming charges and international rates on your home cellular account.

East Africa is a safari destination so you want to travel during the dry months. The long rains are from early April through to early June, and the short rains from late November through December. It is often less expensive to travel during the long rainy season. Dry seasons offer excellent game viewing and more reliable road conditions, and game tends to congregate around the limited water sources, making the animals easier to find.

Kenya Airways fly directly from London and Amsterdam to Nairobi, and directly from London to Mombasa. The only direct flights to Zanzibar originate in South Africa – SAA and Air Tanzania offer these flights.

Weight restrictions on chartered flights vary between chartered flight operators, but passengers are usually restricted to a single soft bag of maximum 15 kg. Check with the operator, or with your Go2Africa consultant, to discover the weight restrictions on a particular chartered flight.

If you do book your own flights, then it's your responsibility to be at Denver International Airport before the allocated pick up time of guests on our flights. If your reservation is with an airline that provides pre-reserved seating, you can reserve your seat online at the time you are making your reservation.
