In cases of death or divorce from the J-1, or when a J-2 child reaches age 21, the Waiver Review Division may entertain requests for waivers on behalf of the J-2. The period of time a former exchange visitor spends in the U.S. or a third country may count towards fulfillment of the two-year home residence requirement if the person is employed by his or her government in its military service or career foreign service and that person is serving in a country other than the home country at the behest of his/her government.

If a student wishes to petition the College Standards and Petitions committee to waive a college requirement, s/he obtains the appropriate petition form from the Dean's office (Gambrell 258) and submits it, along with a letter of petition, to the Undergraduate Office. There are no provisions for such waiver on outdoor meters for new construction. The only waiver permissible for existing structures are if the building has already received Landmark status or is within a Historic District.

The CD Operations involve members who are qualified as Mission Scanner/Observer, and for members qualified as Mission Pilots, who have been active members of the CAP for two years. A year in residence is the two semesters or three quarters, while enrolled full time at all times, that a student is required to sit out from competition. The National Letter of Intent program requires students who do not attend the institution with which they signed, or who attend that school for less than one academic year, to serve one year in residence at the next NLI member institution before being able to represent the second school in intercollegiate athletics competition.
