Related QuestionsShould I wash my fabric before cutting and sewing?
Frequently Asked QuestionsExperienced quilters are split on this issue and in the end this is a personal choice. The main reason for washing fabric before it is cut and sewn is to prevent shrinkage after stitching. Good fabric has little shrinkage and many quilters who piece by machine prefer not to prewash their fabrics. If there is a little shrinkage later on, they feel it helps hide their machine stitches!
