Probably. Any wireless receiver supporting the industry standard 802.11b or 802.11g protocols should work. However, in rare cases, we have found wireless receivers which had compatibility issues with the computer upon which it was installed.

Your computer must have a wireless network card installed. Computer manufacturers typically indicate this by saying their equipment is WiFi enabled, or that they support 802.11b or 802.11g wireless networks. On a Macintosh computer this is often referred to as an airport card.

Most of the main academic buildings have wireless access points. Wireless is also available in residence hall common areas. Wireless networking is only available using computers equipped with wireless network adapter cards. Carroll supports the 802.11b protocol at all base stations, and also 802.11a in Main Hall.

Click the wireless network connection icon, and then, in Network Tasks, click View available wireless networks. The speed of the wireless network is 54mps; however access speed of the network depends on the technology use on the wireless network card. If the wireless network card only supports 11mbps, this will be the access speed of the network.

Connectivity to the Sac State wireless network is only available if you are within a campus Wireless Zone. A Wireless Zone is defined as an area covered by one or more Wireless Access Points. Signal strength and connections speeds are dependent upon your proximity to the nearest Wireless Access Point and the materials used in the construction of the building you are in or near. We have attempted to cover the entire inside of the building and the courtyard. Some areas outside of the building may provide a weaker signal, depending on sources of radio interference (or lack thereof). Remember that the campus wireless network hardware uses radio waves to communicate. As with any radio transmissions, there will be some areas that are more prone to interference and some areas where reception is better.

The UK Health Protection Agency advises that on the basis of current scientific information WiFi equipment satisfies international guidelines and, therefore, there is no reason why schools and others should not use WiFi equipment. There is insufficient wireless signal strength at your location. Your machine should normally display a graphic showing signal strength. If it shows low signal strength, try moving your machine closer to a wireless access point, which is usually mounted near the ceiling, in the middle of rooms or hallways. With the 802.11g wireless standard you can have a connection of 54 Mb/sec at best (i.e., if you???re right next to the access point and you are the only user). However, you rarely achieve the maximum possible speed. This is because of multiple users and signal strength. All users within range of an access point share that bandwidth, so you???ll only get the top speed if you are the only person within range of that access point.

If the same zip file is installed twice, by two users, the second one overwrites the first one. While the bits are the same (including LSID), the ownership and privacy are subject to change and may end up hiding it from the module's original installer if the second installer installs it as private. Future versions of the open-source OpenOffice suite should work as well.

Office suites may be known by many names including executive suites, office business centers, serviced offices, executive office suites, shared offices, small offices, and temporary or short-term office space. All of these provide traditional office space for individuals or small groups with flexible terms and no lease to sign. Offices are fully furnished and project a professional image.

Limit the number of DHCP addresses to the number of wireless access points that you will be using. Optionally, set static IP addresses, set to non-standard network blocks. Consider using VPN, SSL, Firewalls, RADIUS, Kerberos or other access control, or end-to-end encryption. Most of these can be integrated into your 802.11b appliance.

A firewall will help protect a computer on a wireless network, but will not restrict access to the network itself. You should configure your wireless network to use a network key using either Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) or wired equivalent privacy (WEP).
