Our basic antenna extension kit provides all of the adapters, line amplifiers, and cables required to extend your satellite antenna up to 125 feet from the radio. The antenna can be extended up to a maximum distance of 350 feet the radio. This allows for the use of XM radio in cases where you may be located on the ground floor of a multi story building. If the antenna will collapse, lower it as much as possible. If it is easily removed, take if off. As long as it will lower to near the level of the roof and is near the front or back window it will be OK. A large plastic test tube is supplied to go over the antenna to provide a larger surface area so it is not as likely to puncture the material.

The length of the coax cable from your antenna to your computer is very critical to performance. At microwave frequencies, loss in coax can be very high. We recommend trying to keep your coax length as short as possible, preferably under 40 feet. If you are just a few miles from our transmitter sites, it's possible up to 100 feet may be possible, but is not recommended. As you approach 15 miles from our transmitter sites, we recommend 20 feet.

Several readers have been acclaiming the GE SuperRadio III as an excellent choice for picking up distant AM stations that carry OTR programming. Although the tuning dial has notoriously poor calibration, the sensitivity and selectivity seem superior to other radios. Some readers have had good success with the Select-A-Tenna antenna advertised in several magazines, and the Grove Catalog. The S-A-T seems to be rather directional, and may eliminate off-axis interference.

The antenna can be mounted in several different locations. The roof, the trunk or my personal favorite, inside on the rear parcel shelf. Mounting the antenna inside will cut down on your reception, but until smaller antennas come out, this is a good alternative. We claim to be able to up to double(+) current coverage. How far an antenna will go is a factor of how much power or gain it has and obstructions/interference. Distance is lost as gain is lost. Signal is reduced as obstruction is encountered. Our ratings takes into account calculations that assume moderate obstructions will be encountered (some tree tops, some buildings). Others use a line of site above the freznel zone in specifications.

The USB specifications define that communications through a USB cable are possible for up to 5 meters. Nevertheless, the actual distance may be less than 5 meters depending on the characteristics of the PC???s USB port and USB cable.

A What ever you do, do not roll it into a small convenient coil. It will become an RF choke. If you cannot let it lie loose under a seat or in a headliner, wrap it into a yarn-like skein of about 12 to 16 inches, put a wire tie in the center and tuck it under your dash, seat, etc. A Absolutely! High SWR will limits distance and may cause serious damage to your transmitter. The time spent tuning your antenna is time well spent. Don't take the chance.

In order for no squealing to occur from transmission interference, you must mount the antenna no less than 3' away. Of course, the greater the power of the radio, the greater the minimum distance.

Verify that the transmitter can be powered up by turning on the unit an observing the LED's lighting up. This verifies that power is connected to the transmitter Verify that the data cable is connected between port B on the Z-Max to the data port of the transmitter. Verify that the data port baud rates between the transmitter and the Z-Max are the same. A quick check is to use the COMM OPTIONS/PDL/LOAD function.

All satellite dishes require ARB approval. If approval is given, satellite dishes must be 24" in diameter or smaller and may not be visible from the street. Antennas and radio towers are not permitted per Davis Lake covenants and restrictions (see #2 above).

Generally it is not recommended, though it depends on the cable and the frequency you are using. In general the longer the cable between the antenna and receiver the greater the loss of signal strength.

The most common cause for this type of erectile dysfunction is that some of the cogs on the nylon drive cable inside the antenna have been chewed off. Keeping your antenna clean and lubricated (free of ice build-up in the winter) is the best way to extend the life of your antenna. Many factors affect how far a radio will transmit including power of the radio and the environment in which it's used (e.g. are there many buildings around? Is the area mountainous or have lots of trees?). Whilst many radio manufacturers will give an estimated maximum range under ideal conditions, it is impossible to guess a true distance.

The farther away you are from the antenna, the slower the connection. Up to about 100 feet from the access point, you can expect 11MB of bandwidth. From 100 to 200 feet, you can expect 5MB of bandwidth. Beyond 200 feet, service drops to 1MB of bandwidth until you move completely out of range. These connection speeds are under optimal conditions and other factors can contribute to a slow connection.

The standard antenna cable length is 50 feet. If you need more we offer antenna lengths of up to 250 feet without a GPS preamplifier. If you need more than 250 feet of cable then a preamp is required. You can run an additional 200 feet of cable for every preamp installed and you can have up to 3 or 4 preamps. When the optional MAJ-1091 remote extension cable (4 m) is used, the cable length can be extended to 5.7 m including the original remote cable length of 1.7 m. When the main unit is kept stationary at a high position and the 3D Eye-Trek or LCD is connected to the remote controller through the provided LCD/3D Eye-Trek cable, the operator can control the insertion tube with the remote controller.

This is not recommended. Operating a radio transmitter with no connected antenna has the potential to damage or weaken the RF power amplifier on the card, possibly permanently reducing it's performance. If you're going to have your antenna disconnected for more than a very short period of time, we recommend that you slide your FireServe radio card from the slot in the back of your computer (after properly shutting down the PCMCIA slot in Windows, or after powering off your computer).

A - This is tough to answer, & there are many variables, but here are some good general guidelines & "Rules of thumb". First, The Taller the antenna, the better it will work. Mount your antenna as high as possible on the vehicle, & try to get at least 50% of it over the roofline. Usually, all else being equal, the Tallest, longest antenna you are comfortable with, mounted as high as possible, will give the best performance.

Although there is no "best" antenna for everyone, one of the most directional is the "rhombic". Being very directional, this antenna can select one weak station out of many strong ones, or one group of stations originating from a general direction. In addition, very directional antennas are good at reducing multipath interference, a problem which is more severe in cities with tall buildings.

Dipole antennas are inexpensive and available at many electronic retail stores. A dipole antenna captures an FM signal much better than a simple piece of wire. It also receives signals primarily located 90 degrees to the direction of the extended T portion of the antenna. Using the coverage map, determine the approximate direction of the WAMU 88.5 transmitter, and point the dipole antenna 90 degrees to the direction of the transmitter.
