The default behavior of Timbuktu Pro for Windows is to launch as a service on boot-up. You will know if Timbuktu has been launched by the presence of the computer icon in the System Tray. The System Tray is the rectangular area on the Task Bar by the clock. To get the Timbuktu Window once the application has been launched, right click on the Timbuktu icon and select Open (from the pop-up menu), or double click on the Timbuktu icon.

If you have the preference for "only accept incoming connections when application is open" (Setup:Preferences:General) selected, this will require you to login every single time you launch Timbuktu Pro. This is because the Timbuktu host requires "root" privileges in order to launch Timbuktu Pro and accept inbound connections.

The Timbuktu Pro installation file you download is a binhexed, stuffed disk image file. Use Stuffit Expander to un-binhex it, and then double-click the file to mount it. Then drag the Timbuktu Pro for Macintosh folder from the disk image to your MacOS X Applications folder. Timbuktu Pro 32 is the latest release of Timbuktu for Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95/98. This version is fully compatible with Windows 98. Timbuktu Pro for Windows 1.5 will not be upgraded to support Windows 98. However, version 1.5.x does support Windows NT machines and all other versions of the Windows OS. Timbuktu Pro for Windows version 1.1 works with Windows 3.x and Windows 95 only. Currently, it is only available to Timbuktu Enterprise customers.

After running the Applescript to change the contact port that Timbuktu Pro uses, your OS X requires that you toggle TCP/IP Incoming Access off and on (Setup:Preferences:Incoming Access). After you re-enable TCP/IP incoming access, Timbuktu Pro will now reflect the new port

Click on "Oracle Calendar" then Preferences in the desktop client which brings up an "Oracle Calendar Preferences" window. In the "Oracle Calendar Preference" window, scroll down in the left panel, click on "General" tab in the left panel. When Timbuktu launches as a service, the folders of a mapped drive will not show up in the Timbuktu File Exchange window. This happens because Timbuktu launches and gathers the hard drive information before the drive is mapped. The current workarounds are to either shut down and relaunch Timbuktu after the drive is mapped, or to not have Timbuktu launch as a service. Timbuktu Pro for the Mac, version 5.x is not compatible with Microsoft's NetMeeting v3.0 software. Timbuktu Pro for the Mac versions 4.5 through 4.8 included a NetMeeting Compatible Application Sharing feature that was compatible with NetMeeting 2.x. You can easily do this within Timbuktu Pro's user interface. On the system you wish to change the key on, open up Timbuktu Pro. Once open, go to Setup:Activation Key. You can now highlight the old activation key and paste/type in your new key. After you've saved this new key, Timbuktu Pro will update your new serial number.

present Timbuktu Pro only supports the Windows OS running on Intel and Intel compatible chip sets. Netopia has made no announcements regarding other platforms at the present time.

The Timbuktu Pro for Windows 1.5.x has no known issues with the year 2000 and can be installed on Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT machines. Since Timbuktu Pro is a set of services that runs on top of the protocol layer, it is fully compatible with any third party LAN based encryption schemes (Virtual Private Networks) or connection protocols such as PPTP. Passwords are encrypted and connections are established using a challenge and response protocol.

Generally users get a Blue Screen after rebooting an NT PC due to incomplete installation or conflicts with the video driver or another gina.dll file.
