The Stanford University Libraries & Academic Information Resources (SULAIR) have entered into a 1-year (AY 04-05) co-development partnership with Groxis to develop a Stanford version of Grokker tailored for the academic environment.

The Stanford Grokker is a special version of Grokker available exclusively to Stanford faculty, students and staff. Stanford Grokker provides a single point of access to Socrates, HighWire Press, Expanded Academic ASAP, Academic Search Premier, the Library of Congress, IEEE Explore, RLG Union Catalog and the web. SULAIR and Groxis continue to work together to add new features to Grokker and to expand the number of research sources that Grokker accesses.

SULAIR and Groxis will continue to collaborate to improve the Stanford Grokker. We are currently working to increase the number of SULAIR’s licensed resources available through Grokker. Improvements and additions to the user interface are also being made, based on feedback from the Stanford community.

The Grokker awareness campaign at Stanford has consisted mainly of a series of workshops and training events, combined with an innovative awareness campaign to introduce the term “grok” to the Stanford community. Workshops and training opportunities have included numerous workshops for library and residential computing staff, who frequently make recommendations to students and faculty on research technology and tools.

In 1993, the Elton John AIDS Foundation established a grant-making collaboration with the National AIDS Fund in order to facilitate the most cost-effective distribution of grants to communities and populations most impacted by HIV/AIDS. Through this partnership, EJAF provides challenge grants to the National AIDS Fund’s expanding network of HIV prevention and core programs in local Community Partnerships nationwide.

Grokker is an innovative research and information management tool that simultaneously searches many data sources, and presents results in a topically organized, visual map. Grokker is the flagship product of Groxis, Inc.; a privately held company backed by leading investors, founded in 2001.

The doctoral and master's programs are separate both in admissions and in coursework. In terms of admissions, applicants must specify which program to direct their application. Students enrolled in the doctoral program do not earn a "master's-along-the-way." With the exception of a few courses, coursework for the students in the doctoral program is separate from that of the master's program.

Meniere’s disease is a disorder that produces a group of symptoms: sudden attacks of whirling dizziness, tinnitus or head noise, a feeling of pressure or fullness in the ear, and a fluctuating hearing loss. While the underlying cause is not known, it is believed to result from a fluctuation in the pressure of fluid that fills the inner ear. An attack may last from a few hours to several days.

Almost all implantable cardioverter-defibrillators have built in circuitry to pace the heart, in addition to familiar "zapping" function to correct V-Tach or V-Fib, when the heart beats too fast. The pacing function starts if the heart beats too slowly. That happens to many of us, especially when we sleep, because some of the anti-arrhythmic medicines we take do slow down the heart beat.

A Chiropractic Physician (DC), receives much the same basic education as a Medical Doctor (MD) and Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), All three professions are trained in primary care diagnosis. In its early days, NASMHPD maintained a research division that was reconstituted in 1987 as the NASMHPD Research Institute, Inc. (NRI), a separate non-profit organization. The NRI provides the evaluation and data analysis capacity to NASMHPD.

The Groxis staff can gain a foothold in the academic market by working with Stanford and getting feedback on Grokker from the highly skilled staff of the Stanford University Libraries & Academic Information Resources and from Stanford students and faculty.

of March 2005, Grokker had been downloaded onto almost 2000 Stanford faculty, student, and staff home and office machines. Feedback from training sessions, and the Grokker on-line survey indicate that Stanford students like the single search capability of Grokker and the visual display of results. Stanford users are anxious to have even more Stanford resources made available through the Grokker research tool.

The current Dietary Guidelines for Americans (1) recommend that if you choose to drink alcoholic beverages, you do not exceed 1 drink per day for women and 2 drinks per day for men. Swimmer’s ear (otitis externa) is typically a bacterial infection of the ear canal; this differs from otitis media which involves fluid behind the eardrum. Otitis externa is most commonly caused by water getting trapped in the ear canal. It also follows injury to the skin of the ear canal caused by aggressive “cleaning” with Q-tips, bobby pins, match sticks and other devices. Most of the time, otitis media clears up with proper medication.

Teeth should be cleaned thoroughly every day. For most children, twice a day, morning and at night before bedtime works well. Some children may need more frequent cleaning, for example after every dose of sweet medication. If brushing is more frequent, limit toothpaste use to just twice a day, morning and night.
