The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office operates an aviation section located at St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport. The police helicopter responds to calls by orbiting the scene of the call, causing it to fly over streets and homes that are not directly involved in the police activity. The spotlight can also illuminate areas not directly involved due to the width of the light beam. When looking for criminal activity or persons on the ground the light may shine on your home. You may want to stay inside, lock the doors and turn on exterior lights if it appears the activity is in your neighborhood.

I have not heard of the news that Boston wanted to cut down the noise pollution around Logan International Airport by requiring all planes to 'glide' onto the runway for landing. Not all airplanes glide to land with idle power. In reality, most planes land with about 40 to 60 percent of power in the approach-to-land phase. So this procedure is impractical and cannot be made mandatory.

Look for Metro aircraft by their VATSIM callsign, which is NMHxx, or on voice, using the callsign "Metro <number>." MetroLife callsigns when flying medevac missions will be of the format NMHxxLG, and voice callsigns are Lifeguard Metro XX. NMH01 ("Metro One") is used by Metro's Executive Director (CEO). There are new helicopters being produced every year, and old helicopters are being retired from production to make room, so this document cannot recommend a specific make or model. There are two common kinds of trainer airplanes: Cessna and Piper. If you choose Cessna, which is a high-wing airplane, we would start in the 2-seater C-152, and then later switch to a 4-seater C-172. If you choose Piper, which is a low-wing airplane, we will fly Piper Archer or Piper Warrior - two very similar models of Pipers. Most Cessnas are very similar to each other, and most Pipers are very similar to each other, but there are many differences between Cessna and Piper.
