BDO International was founded in Europe in 1963 due to a progressive vision of accounting firms in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States and Canada, that wished to provide services to their clients in all the countries where they operated. The leaders of those companies met to form the International Group Binder Seidman, which 10 years later took the brief name of BDO.

The project had been known informally there as 'Bicycle'." One day Mike Dertouzos [director of the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science] and John were talking on the phone.
