It is possible with the right hardware to setup a network with DSL, although we do not support setup or troubleshooting for this. With all the different combinations of hardware and software involved with networking, it is virtually impossible to support over the phone.

When considering an ISDN or DSL line, know the pros and cons. Cost: ISDN through the telephone company costs an average of $60 / mo., plus a connection fee, and DSL is usually about $45 / mo. Sometimes connection fees are discounted when signing a one year term agreement (check with your provider). With ISDN, you should get 2 to 3 times faster downloads, and DSL is generally 10 - 20 times faster than dial up.

Sure, you could do that, but it's not a good idea for several reasons. First, a vast majority of ISPs won't let you legally use a residential cable modem or a DSL line to host a public server. You would have to get a more expensive business package. Second, ADSL and cable lines usually have lower upstream bandwidth than downstream bandwidth, so your site may appear to be sluggish under heavy traffic. Third, DSL and cable lines have a much lower reliability than dedicated T1 or better lines.

The DSL modem does not go inside the computer. It typically plugs in to an ethernet card though some modems can also use your USB ports. If your machine does not have an ethernet card, you will need a card installed in the computer with the manufacturer's drivers. The DSL modem is a transparent device as far as windows is concerned and requires no drivers of used with Ethernet. You will need the manufacturer's Cdrom to install your Lightning DSL on the USB port.

This is one of the most important areas for telcos to understand. DSL lines should be properly qualified prior to deploying DSL service. The cable pair must be free of DC type faults. All shorts, grounds, cross, battery-crosses, and open cable pairs must be identified and repaired. To minimize the effects of crosstalk, keep all "like" services in the same binder group. Any disturbers such as T1/E1 or HDSL must be placed in binder groups separated from ADSL.

Unlike cable modems, your DSL is totally private and not a shared network. Note: this does not mean you cannot be hacked by someone else on the Internet, it just means that you have a separate line from you to Internet Junction, so no local neighbors can listen to your data.
