As soon as creators realized there was a way to control and enhance the sound of their pictures, Audio Post was born, and has been a fact of life ever since. In Television, audio was originally "live", like the visual program it was part of.

Television Films High-end productions often use the new digital videotape formats, which, when used with digital switchers and edit controllers, are capable of being dubbed many times, without sustaining any significant 'generation loss' of picture or sound quality (what loss occurs is a result of the compression and decompression of the image as it goes through the various stages of production). These formats include: D1, D2, D3, and Digital Beta.

Mastering and post-production projects follow a similar pre-production discussion as recording projects. With mastering, we ask you what things you expect in the final product, things like how much correction you require to your mixes, and how it sounds overall. We also ask you to bring reference CDs. Other things like song order, overall loudness, dithering options, and PQ documentation are also discussed.

In-house AV companies are best suited when all you need is the requirements provided by in-house firms. They provide the usual support including audio, video playback, pipe and drape staging and other often used requests. An in-house AV company will usually work to your direction during a show and look to you to take the lead on show flow and cues. External production companies usually offer a turnkey service.

Each Degree is approximately two years, though you are welcome to continue taking classes beyond the 98 required credits. Some students finish their program in slightly less time, but we prefer you take your time to get the experience you’ll need to get hired.

Although participants are given access to AFI editing facilities, participants may also choose to edit at an outside facility. Outside editing facilities must be approved in advance. Editing schedules are strictly monitored and any participants editing off-campus must screen cuts of their film for evaluation of progress. While we may add detailed post-production costs in the future, we have found that most productions tend to go back to their home base for editing and finishing. We have provided costs to take one through to Film-to-Tape transfer.

Studio production allows the crew to film on site then produce the edit and add special effects at a studio. The problem with that is the length of time between approvals and lack of input from the client. By bringing a mobile edit studio to the shooting site such as a manufacturing facility, the client can track and add input to the production during the post production stage.

Every message needs a subject. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing messages in your newsreader as having "No subject" as a subject. So, title your messages, and make them mean something! ALWAYS include a subject line in your message.
