Recognizing the value of the "actual" classroom, TRIUM features 10 weeks of intensive class time. Although there are no "online" classes, students complete approximately 10-15 hours of work per week between modules. This critical component of the program, which includes pre- and post-module preparation and follow-through, is facilitated by Ed-Web, an online platform that enables TRIUM students to collaborate on team assignments and to work from their homes or offices or while traveling.

Distance Learning classes fill fast--the earlier you register, the better your odds of getting in a desired course. If you find that the course is full you can contact the instructor to ask for an overload. Due to the substantial time demands placed on instructors who teach on-line, most instructors are reluctant to grant overloads. Drop/Adds are particularly frequent during the week prior to the start of classes and during the first week of classes.

Each student or prospective student should take the Orientation for Online Students. At the end of the Orientation is a Quiz. After submitting your quiz you will get a response via email from the Office of Distance Learning. Keep this email (your instructor may require it as proof that you are ready to take the class).

We recommend you search for a program that has extensive distance learning experience, regional accreditation, low student attrition, a dedicated and highly respected full-time faculty, high student satisfaction, and minimal or no travel required. Yes, many of our courses are online, and they do not require you to come to the campus. The introductory level classes in bioinformatics and medical informatics, the Certificate programs and the Professional MS are all distance learning classes or programs that are supported by the Stanford Center for Professional Development. Online Learning is an evolution of what was formerly known at BCCC as Distance Learning. Whereas 10 years ago Distance Learning courses were mainly telecourses and print/correspondence courses, as the Internet has grown, the use of online tools in instruction has also. We have introductory courses that are available on CD. These are a 40-hour introductory course and a 50-hour intermediate course.

Yes, we offer all courses, except Practicum, as an internet-based distance learning course. Check the course schedule for the current and future course offerings. Be advised that certain courses also have a required lab component which will require a student's presence on campus during announced lab times. Additionally, course testing is administered at an ACC testing center.

Some students find distance learning courses to be easier and some students find these courses more challenging: it depends on your learning style. Successful students are those who enjoy setting their own schedule and approach the assignments and readings with the same motivation they would give to an on-campus, classroom-based course. Students should also be aware that summer classes are taught in an accelerated time frame.

Yes and No. EMIL contains distance learning opportunities between residences. However, you must attend all five residences in person to receive an EMIL degree.
