Who is the author of the ALA website? When did the site begin?

FAQ
ALA began its public electronic era in the 1988-89 fiscal year, when several staff were provided "bitnet" accounts, courtesy of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). On May 12, 1991, the first subscription-based electronic list--ALCTS Network News (AN2)--was launched (AN2 was discontinued in 2002). More accounts and many more e-lists followed. In July 1994, ALA launched a Gopher, using the server at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

When did your website first begin?

faq.
July 1998 was when it debuted online as "A Total Waste Of Time." It began as a very, very lo-tech site with a few scans of my artwork and some random bits. It was highly influenced by Radiohead's website at the time, but that confused me as well as my guests, so I changed the format a bit. As the years have progressed, I've revamped my page several times.

Jeff Gordon Online began in late May 1998. I had maintained a smaller version of the site at Geocities from January 1997 until May 1998. If you remember that page, well, you're giving your Internet age away! The Geocities page went from a handful of visitors a day to well over 300 a day by May 1998. At that point, I took it to the next level with its own domain name. Since then, the number of visitors have skyrocketed and the rest is history.

B Vitamins Avoid washing, soaking, or boiling, as B vitamins are water soluble and easily lost. Even brief boiling destroys up to a third of vitamin B12 and half the folic acid. If brown rice, for example, which ordinarily takes about 45 minutes to cook, is soaked overnight, or at least two hours, it will cook in 17 minutes, the same time as long-grain white rice. I soaked farro, that marvelous firm-textured Italian grain with the delicately nutty flavor, overnight, and it cooked in 10 minutes.

Who is your favorite author? Why? Did he or she inspire you to write?

Margaret Buffie
I have many authors that I enjoy reading. My tastes in books is as mixed as my taste in music and art. I like everything from classics to the latest works. I also enjoy biographies and non fiction books on history and writing. To tell you the truth, I couldn't pick just one favorite from all of the authors that write for children because so many of them are absolutely wonderful, especially Canadian writers. I think a number of writers inspired me for many different reasons.
