The Foundation sponsors volunteer support groups all over the world as well as telephone support contacts. These groups offer people with alopecia areata a chance to share feelings, experiences, and solutions to coping with the disease. Each group has a leader who has alopecia areata or is closely associated with someone who does. Support groups further the Foundation's goal of research, emotional support, and public awareness.

Local CCFC volunteer Chapters hold education meetings and other events. In a few cases, they have been authorized to offer support group services led by trained facilitators. We recommend that you consult with your physician and local hospital on the availability of various services.

MT-NW 3.1 does not support yEnc, even via external decoders. The main issue here is that yEnc-encoded messages contain non-ASCII characters that MT-NW 3.1 strips out when saving the messages to disk. An ugly workaround is to use the 'Export' command, but then you have to drag the saved file onto a helper app manually. MT-NW 3.2 (on OS X) does support decoding of yEnc posts (but not posting of yEnc).

Those involved in support groups should receive training in breastfeeding and young child feeding as well as training in counseling skills and the dynamics of support groups. Training for the facilitator may take the form of an official, recognized training course or an apprenticeship. Training programs vary from 20 to 80 hours. Lessons spread over time allow for better assimilation of material as do participatory activities.

The community may not perceive the need for establishing a support group. The prevailing attitude in society may be an obstacle. People may think that breastfeeding is a common practice, old fashioned, difficult, embarrassing, or inconvenient. Countering these attitudes is difficult. News releases in print and on radio, posters, and leaflets can help raise awareness of breastfeeding in general and the benefits of support groups.

Yes, Full Circle has a birthparent buddy program by which you can be in touch with other birthparents by phone, e-mail, regular mail or in person. We know it can be helpful to talk with someone who either has been through adoption or who is currently going through the adoption process. We also have a monthly meeting time scheduled at The Birthparent Center for those birthparents who would like to be a part of a local discussion and support group.

The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) has some exciting programs to provide people affected by osteoporosis with the support they need to successfully cope with the disease.

The Foundation's newsletter is published five times a year, providing a forum for people with alopecia areata and their friends and families to interact and receive the latest information on all aspects of the disease. It enables people with alopecia areata to speak out about the problems associated with the disease and how to deal with them.

A handbook on alopecia areata for use by mental health professionals and volunteers who provide emotional support to those coping with this disease. A nine-minute video/dvd, “Alopecia Areata: Why My Hair Falls Out” that is available to any children who need a way to share their feelings about alopecia areata with friends, family, peers, schoolmates, principals and teachers

The Foundation coordinates fundraising activities through a style of fundraising that is decentralized with centralized coordination, with directors of development serving each of the SIUE schools and college, and some major units.

The Foundation's grantmaking is focused on three areas: education, advocacy and activism. The Foundation's support is primarily distributed to cornerstone organizations for core operating support, although some support is project-specific or capacity building focused.

We are ambivalent about eating disorders support groups. For someone who has recently begun to starve or stuff, especially someone young in years, we recommend formal treatment to quickly break disordered eating patterns and restore physical and psychological health. If people find friends and acceptance in a support group, they may begin to define their identity as "eating disordered" so they can continue to belong and participate. That makes recovery much harder.

Many treatment facilities have a network of support groups in their area and we highly recommend that you participate in them. Ask your doctor. We suggest that you contact any bariatric treatment center to get more information about diet plans, weight loss products and supplements required a after specific bariatric surgical procedure.
