Although applicants to the M.B.A. are required to submit GMAT scores, waiver of this requirement may be granted to part-time applicants. The GMAT waiver policy is covered in the Catalog and Student Handbook. Please note: the GMAT cannot be waived for full-time M.B.A. candidates. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for our master’s programs in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology.

GRE scores are not required, but we ask that you include them if you have taken the GRE within the past 3 years.

We do not require ACT/SAT test scores, but we do encourage you to submit them. If you do not submit them, you must take our ACCUPLACER testing prior to meeting with an advisor. Some programs that encourage the use of the test scores:

If you hold a PhD in a related discipline and are able to submit a photocopy of the GMAT/GRE that was part of your original PhD application, you may then request a waiver of the GMAT/GRE test requirement. Such requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions Committee.

Most programs will accept GRE scores that have been taken in the last five years. ETS recommends that the test be retaken after five years.

The GMAT is required for applicants in Accounting. The other departments (Finance, Management, Marketing, Real Estate, and Supply Chain and Information Systems) prefer GMAT scores, but the GRE is an acceptable alternative. Scores must be no more than five years old.

The Department does not have a formal GRE/GMAT level requirement. Typically, the Department expects GRE/GMAT scores to be above 1000 (verbal and quantitative combined). However, a portfolio approach is used to assess an applicant's credentials for admission. The GRE/GMAT, GPA, work experience and career statement are considered together.

Graduate programs, like the Consortium MBA program, use standardized assessment tests like the Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®) and Graduate Record Examinations ® General Test (GRE® General Test) as one predictor of academic performance in an MBA program. Both exams measure verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills you have acquired over a long period of time. Neither exam accesses your knowledge of business principles and practices.

If you want to be considered for financial assistance, the earlier the better. March 1st is the official cut off date.

Your score will be considered expired if the test was taken more than five years prior to the application deadline. If you took the test before January 1, 2003, you must retake the test for us to consider your application. The PhD Program Office retains received test scores for two years.

While you may choose to submit your scores only to the admitting institution (currently UNCG), we would prefer if you submitted your scores to both Graduate Schools. If at all possible, do not submit them to the individual departments. If you're not sure yet when you plan to apply, report them to both schools, just to be on the safe side.

Typically the GRE is required of all applicants to our Ph.D. programs. Exceptions are granted in rare cases, at the discretion of the director of Ph.D. programs. If you wish to petition for an exception, please contact Prof. Roger Parks.

The GRE is required of doctoral students who are seeking funding through the graduate economics program. The GRE is not required (though it is highly recommended) for all other students applying at the doctoral and masters level. We do not accept GMAT scores in lieu of the GRE.

The GRE is taken if one is applying for the Master of Arts program, whereas the GMAT is taken if one is applying for the Master of Business Administration program.

Students have a variety of preferences and opinions on the options for graduate-level standardized testing. There really is no clear preference for either exam, and the MS-Marketing program accepts scores from either exam.

GRE results are not necessary unless your GPA does not meet the 3.0 requirement. If that is the case, please contact the MCRP program coordinator.

No. However, General GRE scores from an examination taken within the last five years are required from all applicants. The General GRE consists of verbal, quantitative, analytical reasoning (if taken prior to October 2002) and analytical writing (if taken after October 2002).

GMAT scores are valid for five years from the test date. As long as you submit the application and the test score is submitted by ETS before the expiration of the exam, we can use the score for admission purposes. In other words, the exam does not have to be valid at the time of enrollment. For example, if you took the exam in November of 2001 and submit the scores and application by November 2006, we can use the scores for the entire application cycle for fall 2007.

While there is no minimum GRE score that is required, the most competitive applicants typically have verbal and quantitative scores in the range of 550 - 700.

Admissions decisions are based on the the applicant's full spectrum of credentials. This includes standardized test scores, as well as previous academic performance, rigor of previous academic programs and institutions, recommendations, career and volunteer experience, and commitment to one's chosen field. We have found that at the master's level, undergraduate grades are the best predictor of graduate academic success.

GRE scores are not required by the Graduate Division, nor by the Department. However, students should note that some outside funding agencies may require GRE scores, for example, in nationally competitive funding agencies. Applicants should consult all the relevant sources of funding before deciding whether to do the GRE or not.

Educational Testing Service (ETS) will report GRE scores for 5 full years, only. For specific information, visit the GRE website at www.gre.org.

For foreign applications, we require a TOEFL score of 600. While your GRE score is important, we have no specific cut-off for GRE scores, and consider the GRE score to be just one part of your overall application. All applicants must submit a GRE score to be considered for fellowships or graduate teaching assistantships.

We require official ETS scores. An application is not considered complete unless we receive official ETS scores. The Admissions Committee may choose not review incomplete applications.

We do not have minimum scores for admissions to the program. The home unit you apply to may have minimums which you must meet, but the QCF program itself does not have minimums for these items. There is a minimum TOEFL score required by Georgia Tech. The minimum score depends upon the type of TOEFL you have submitted. The MS-Marketing program has developed a reputation for accepting those students with strong standardized test scores. Target Minimum GMAT scores are 550 with an Analytical score of 4.5. Target Minimum GRE scores are a total of 1000 with an Analytical score of 4.5.

To use LSAT/GMAT scores in lieu of GRE's, you must first be accepted at W&M's law/business school.

Each program has its specific admission requirements. There is not a set minimum score needed for admission. The score on the admission test is just one of several factors considered for admission. Some programs allow conditional admission. For these programs, the graduate advisor may allow a student to take classes for one semester without taking the required admission exam. It is at the discretion of the graduate advisor and academic dean to offer a student conditional admission status.
