FM mode is presently not enabled due to parts for the unique filters required. As soon as the filters are available and the finishing touches applied in the firmware you will be able to download the update to enable this mode.

You can operate split with just one FM filter installed (on the main RX). Just turn the subreceiver off. VFO B then controls the transmit frequency in split mode, as usual. If you want to operate split with the sub RX on, a.k.a. "dual watch" in FM mode, you'll need an FM filter on the subreceiver, too. Why does "dual watch" only apply to having the sub on? From an operational standpoint, can't I have dual watch with just the main RX? That's how the Icom 756Pro series works.

OSHA has issued a letter of principal acceptance of this type of protection, on the condition that the noise level produced by the FM radio does not exceed 85 dB. Read the OSHA letter.

There are dual VFOs (A and B), controlled by separate VFO knobs. You can operate SPLIT, as usual, whether there's a subreceiver or not. The K3's VFOs can be set to different modes and even different bands. Each VFO also keeps track of its own filter presets (I and II), on a per-mode basis. A "preset" in K3-land is a combination of a crystal filter (selected automatically by the DSP controls) and the DSP settings (SHIFT/WIDTH or HI-CUT/LO-CUT, which can be used interchangeably).

The K3 includes passband tuning. It's designed to take maximum advantage of its large number of crystal roofing filters and IF DSP in combination. There are two sets of controls: SHIFT/width, and hi-cut/lo-cut. Tapping a single button switches between the two. An optimized DSP graphic on the LCD sits just above the knobs, and shows you at a glance whether the passband has been shifted or narrowed as a result of using these controls.

You may have to use a different absolute pathname, whatever the location of imapd on your mailserver is. This option tells fetchmail that instead of opening a connection on the server's port 143 and doing standard IMAP authentication, fetchmail should ssh to the server and run imapd, using the more secure ssh authentication (as well as getting ssh's end-to-end encryption). Most IMAP daemons will detect that they've been called from the command line and assume the connection is preauthenticated.

It has to do with those Part 15 rules above. There’s not really an unlicensed FM setup that URH could use. A professional consultant was hired to recommend options for URH, and a low power Campus AM was determined to be the best option until an FM license can be filed.

The K3 will be shown at Dayton and other Amateur conventions as the summer wears on. After production units ship, we suspect many of our customers will be happy to demonstrate their new radio to local hams. When appropriate, we'll try and assist in arranging demos early on. The K3 was designed entirely by our West-Coast U.S. design team. This includes the packaging (front panel, chassis, knobs, switches, and LCD), as well as all circuitry, PC boards, and firmware.

CALL FM (WMKL) is a radio station that serves the South Florida area. CALL FM can be heard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 91.7 FM airing Christian music and programming designed specifically for teens and young adults. The CALL has been on the air since February 9, 2000.

The K3 8-pin microphone connector is wired the same as the K2 using the Kenwood pin-out. Plus we added a lot more mic pre-amp gain (adjustable) in the K3. There's also a 1/8-inch mono mic connector on the rear panel. This helps with keeping the clutter down during the heat of a contest. The mic source is set from a menu option. Diagram

The K3 has the features of most high-end "sound card interfaces" built in. Transformer-coupled stereo line out is included. This enables you to have the main receiver and the subreceiver feed into your computer for various data modes. Transformer-coupled line input is provided, for various digital modes or other external audio sources for transmit. The RS232 serial interface supports RTS and DTR inputs. These can be configured by use of a set up menu so either signal can be PTT, KEY or both.

The accessory jack has a contact closure input for remote on/off, and the internal alarm clock can wake the radio up as well. We're looking into some sort of "wake on serial port activity" but that's not certain at this time.

If you purchase a K3, you will definitely need to have a PC (or possibly other types of computers--we're working on that) in order to obtain firmware upgrades. The firmware is upgraded via a connection from the radio to your computer, not by installing a new IC, as with our other transceivers. This is important for two reasons: Option modules that you install "after" taking delivery of the K3 may require a firmware upgrade.

However, it does have tremendous flexibility with the full-performance subreceiver; the ability to transmit on the main or sub frequency; the ability to use in-line filters to the main receiver via the Rx In and Rx Out connectors, and so forth. For many people, this is essentially SO2R operation.

You'll need to discuss this with Lisa; the order form will eventually deal with several such questions we've had about filters. Numerous people contributed to the design of the K3.

Fibromyalgia (fi-bro-mi-l-ja) is a disorder that causes aches and pain all over the body. People with FM also are tender throughout the body, which is most pronounced at certain regions termed "tender points." When the unit is used as recommended with a narrow band fm receiver, it will work with any signal that has a carrier that remains within the IF bandwidth of the receiver. This would include unmodulated carriers, narrow band fm modulated signals, and amplitude modulated signals. Television video carriers can also be used, but the system will not track broadband noise or single sideband signals. Commercial broadcast (wideband) fm signals require that the receiver bandwidth be increased to 150 KHz.

Answer: Please make sure that the FM transmission is activated in the setup menu and earphone is plugged to the player. (The FM radio transmission is always off when the mp4 is switched on and need to be activated every time you turn on the mp4. It is always off to save power.) For best FM transmission quality and range, simply plug a earphone wire (the longer the better), i.e. earphone without the "ear piece speaker" to the earphone socket.

Poor AM radio reception is typically caused by the pre-amp not receiving power. Apparently the pre-amp is not required for good FM reception if they have fairly strong signals. The power to the pre-amp is sent through a black wire in the same sleeve as the power antenna. +12 volts should be applied to this wire whenever the radio is on. Most radios have a "Power Antenna" wire that should work for this function.

The noise blanker has been totally redesigned and is being tested on a wide variety of noise sources. We studied several different design approaches before starting the KNB3, including the Drake circuit. It is also supplemented by DSP noise blanking, which will work in some situations that would defy IF blanking. The two in combination (not to mention DSP random noise reduction) will really shine.

The K3 AFX (audio effects) creates the illusion of added space, similar to stereo, and has user adjustable settings. The binaural mode is similar to binaural I-Q (please see March 99 QST). We also monitor the SWR bridge in receive mode (forward/reflected power). If a signal large enough to cause front-end damage appears in the main T-R path (a "reverse transmit" condition), we quickly open the PIN diode path to the receiver, typically in less than 1 ms.

The K3 may be operated outside the Amateur bands, but this capability is prevented by firmware. We have not yet worked out the mechanism, but we fully intend to support such operation, along with the Alaska Emergency frequency at 5.175 MHz. General coverage receive filters can be added to the main receiver and/or the subreceiver. This is the KBP3 option. The rig automatically selects the narrow ham-band filters when you're in the ham bands, and the wider filters when you're in-between ham bands.

The K3 uses full-custom, high-reliability switches selected specifically for their tactile properties and long rated lifetime (typically > 1M operations). They're fully sealed against moisture, which is important for use in high-humidity environments. Each switch incorporates a large polydome for positive tactile feedback (about .02" travel), and the contact surfaces are gold-plated. (These are not the hard-to-press, no-feedback matrix switches found on cheap calculators.

As with any disease, Fibromyalgia presents a spectrum of symptoms from mild to severe. In general, if you are tired and cannot sleep, have at least six painful spots on your body, have memory and cognition problems, and have intestinal and absorption problems you probably have Fibromyalgia.
