Since some of our players take vacations or don't play in the summer, we may have a somewhat smaller turnout (maybe two thirds of our average winter nightly crowd), but we usually continue to play on a weekly basis, though we may adjust the number of playing days. Most of our regular players play year-round. But typically, some players, mainly unrated and lower rated 'casual' players, take the summer off from playing.

Our traditional league play runs from September to November for our U8 ? U15 teams and from November to December for U16 and above teams. Many of the teams will participate in tournaments and indoor leagues throughout the year but this is not mandatory. We recognize that children play several different sports and we work with conflicts when possible.

Racing and training does occur year round in the north. For example New York racing goes to Aqueduct in the winter months. Within close range of Fair Hill we will have racing in Maryland, Philadelphia and Penn National. Thus some outfits do stay at Fair Hill year round to train, others (some would argue the more sensible ones) go south. For example, Michael Matz has taken his entire string from the north and relocated south for the winter months for the last couple of years (and likely longer).
