If you need special housing accommodations due to a disability or allergy, you will need to submit a Disability Related Needs Request and appropriate documentation to the Learning Needs and Evaluation Center (LNEC) by June 15, 2007. Social obstacles and the lack of public resources means that parents with disabilities typically have more out of pocket costs than other parents. The costs for equipment, transportation, personal assistance and healthcare costs are particular problems. At the same time, the incomes of most parents with disabilities are substantially lower than parents without disabilities. The average monthly household income for disabled parents is $1,000 less than that of non-disabled parents.

Stipends: During the nine-month academic year, a $500 stipend will be paid to the fellow each month, for a total annual stipend of $4,500. Stipends are paid directly to the Fellow. If you are totally disabled from all forms of employment, it is theoretically possible for you to receive wage-loss benefits for the rest of your life. This, however, is unlikely to occur. Once an application is complete, the local agency will notify the client of approval or denial within 30 days. All client and vendor payments are made by the local agency within 15 days after approval of the client's application. Emergency Services applications are approved within 48 hours after the application is complete. If the disconnection has caused a life-threatening situation, the application approval and vendor notification must occur within 18 hours of a completed application.

If you earn less than 100% of the federal poverty level (FPL), you are not subject to an asset test and are not responsible for either a premium or deductible. There is no gap in coverage for you and prescriptions will cost $1 for generics and $3.10 for brand-name drugs. If you earn more than 100% of FPL but less than 135% of FPL, are eligible for Medicaid, and have assets worth less than $6,120 (single) or $9,190 (couple), you are not responsible for a deductible or premium.

It takes a little more to qualify for disability than it does to qualify for retirement. To qualify for Social Security Disability benefits, you must have worked long enough and recently enough under the current laws. For each year you work, you can earn up to four credits, maximum. Each credit is based on a certain amount of money earned; the amount of earnings required for a credit usually increase each year, as general wage levels increase.

Access to appropriate conditions for learning and evaluation to realize one’s full academic potential is a fundamental right. Reasonable adaptive measures are legally mandated and are intended to provide an opportunity for students with a disability to be evaluated on their ability, not their disability.

Federal and state laws both provide that voters with disabilities are entitled to accommodations for their disabilities if necessary to provide access to voting.

There is no set requirement as to how often you must see your physician.  However, to continue receiving benefits you must be under the continued care of your doctor.  Periodically,  forms will be mailed to you to obtain updated medical information.  Those forms must be completed by you and your physician and returned to this Division. Under the Article 3A Age-Limited Plan, as long as you remain disabled in accordance with statute you will receive a disability benefit until 10 years past normal retirement age, or when service retirement benefits equals disability retirement benefits, whichever occurs first.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a program financed through general revenues.
