Is your son/daughter concerned about his or her use of alcohol, or other drugs including marijuana? If YES is the answer to several of these questions, then there are some strong indications that your son or daughter may be in trouble with alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs. Beware, however, of your own prejudices, or your own emotions and attitudes influencing your answers.

If the trouble is related to grades or discipline, the parents will not be notified. If it is a serious health related problem, the parents will be notified if, and only if, the student is a resident on campus and the parents are the emergency contact for that student. Again, this is because disclosing that information is prohibited by federal and state laws.

For your son or daughter, college will likely be a period of intellectual stimulation and growth, career exploration and development, increased autonomy, self-exploration and discovery, and social involvement. During this period, your children may forge new identities or seek to clarify their values and beliefs. This may require an examination of self, friends, and family.

Alcohol abuse is a real and pressing problem on college campuses all over the country. Parents may sometimes feel out of touch with their student's social habits in high school, an issue which is heightened when the student takes off for the no parents/no curfews environment of college. To avoid future tragedies, parents must talk to their students prior to their departure for college about the potential danger of alcohol abuse.

In those few locations where even remote danger might occasionally exist, program directors work with local police, U.S. consular personnel, and local university officials in setting up whatever practical security measures are deemed prudent. In such places, students will be briefed during orientation programs and reminded at times of heightened political tension about being security-conscious in their daily activities.

Along with having in common the new experience of studying at university and living in residence, there are many opportunities for academic and social interaction that help ease the transition and bring people together. Study groups, academic workshops, and recreational activities are organized throughout the academic year to give students support in their studies, as well as opportunities to have some necessary "down time.

Clothing and personal hygiene items are provided for all youth. The detention center provides supplies and clothing for the youth. Detained youth are not permitted to have money. Gifts are discouraged while the detainee is in the detention center. Snacks are provided by the detention center every night. Detained youth are not permitted to have any tobacco products at any time while they are in the detention center.

During the Summer Session, students and faculty dress informally but neatly. Students should be sure to bring appropriate clothing and extra equipment for swimming and other athletic activities, and for inclement weather. Yes. While owning a computer is not mandated at UMF, they are standard operating equipment here. We strongly encourage him or her to consider purchasing a wireless laptop through our laptop buy-in program. These brand-name laptops come with very attractive prices and on-campus maintenance support. And if they don't have a computer, they'll still have full access to our Computer Center, computer labs, and top-of-the-line networked PCs all over campus, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Campers must write home twice a week. To ensure this takes place, they must bring a letter home as a "ticket" into two special all camp events per week. Parents may telephone their son/daughter after the first week of camp. There are three set times each day when in-coming calls to campers are allowed during free-time periods after meals.

Playing time will be based on a number of factors, but the coaches will make the final decisions as to the actual amount of playing time each player will receive. Some of the factors coaches will take into consideration include: Score of the game As a result, not all players will receive the same amount of playing time. If you wish your son/daughter to receive an equal amount of playing time in each game then it would be best that he/she participate in the intramural program.

Our Learning Center provides tutors for our students at no extra cost. In addition, we have a Student Success Program (SSP) for students who qualify. The SSP serves students who are first generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities. Counselors, advisors, and academic instructors work as a team to promote academic progress until students complete a baccalaureate degree.

CCSU offers a number of academic resources for students to take advantage of. Of course, the student should always consult with the professor of the class they are having difficulties with first. If the student needs additional help, the Math Tutoring Center is located in Copernicus Hall, the Learning Center can also be found in Copernicus Hall, and the Writing Center can be found in Willard Hall. All of these services are free to students! Each residence hall is its own community.

Disabled people or their carers can request a care assessment. Social Services have a duty to carry out these assessments. Second, local authorities have a duty to meet the assessed needs of the disabled person. The Social Services must consult and involve the housing authority (which may a district council and therefore not the same as the Social Services authority which may be county based in a non-unitary authority) where there are housing issues.

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice recognizes the need to safeguard the personal property of youth brought into its care. All of the youth's property is inventoried at admission and the valuable property is stored in the facility safe. Other personal property (clothing, shoes, etc.) is stored in a locked storage room for the duration of the youth's stay. Property is released to the youth upon release from the facility.

Changes in levels of activity from day to day (i.e., alert and active one day, tired and subdued the next). Noticeable change of friends over a period of time (new friends tend to be more known or suspected of chemical use than old ones). Obvious signs of being under the influence of a chemical in or out of school (the smell of alcohol or other chemicals, movement (walking) is affected, altered speech, inappropriate verbal responses).

Good advice from a Mom - I can tell you this from experience. I had to put my daughter on an airplane with a 102 degree fever for Reporting In day! She felt bad. She had to report in sick to be accepted. They came and pulled her out of line and sent her straight to the infirmary. She was escorted to the swearing in ceremony and pictures and escorted back to the clinic. She survived. They take excellent care of their Cadets. Don't worry.

The fall semester official move-in date for first year students is the Wednesday before classes begin. Transfer students can move in beginning on the Friday before classes begin. Check-in (getting your keys) will take place in your area's resident assistant office (Dana, Lemley, East Mary or Townhouse F). Returning students may move in on the Saturday before classes begin.

Answer - I would not suggest that you start your child off crappie fishing until you have taken them fishing several times with a bobber and a can of worms. My first recollection of fishing was on a creek bank with a bamboo pole and a can of worms. I caught fish. It didn't matter what fish, because I was catching fish, and that was all that mattered. Crappie fishing can at times, be very difficult and frustrating....even for adults. So get your son or daughter started off right.
