Our chain and belt drive garage door openers require approximately 4 inches of space between the ceiling and the highest travel point of your door.  Our screw drive models require approximately six inches of space between the ceiling and the highest travel point of your door. To find out if you have the amount of clearance required, manually open your door so that the top rollers are in the radius of the track and the top of the door is at its highest point.

Generally a 1/3 horsepower opener is sufficient for any single car doors and a 1/3 or 1/2 horsepower for some of the heavier double car doors. Remember, the door must be reinforced prior to the attachment of a garage door opener.

Torsion springs are under high tension. Unwinding standard torsion springs requires specific tools and training. Due to the dangerous nature of this process, we recommend you contact a local door dealer to remove the tension from the springs.

A lot of older models are replaceable, however, depending on the type of system, you may not be able to replace your remote: if your remote does not contain dip switches (and is at least 15 years old), you will need a new receiver. A receiver is much less expensive than replacing the entire operator and is easily installed (most residential receivers have 3 connections), clear and easy instructions and schematics are included.

You most likely have a burned drive belt, although there is the possibility of having a burned circuit board or capacitor. All are easily replaced.

Probably not. Garage door openers use a different radio frequency than the Mighty Mule E-Z gate opener. If you want your GTO entry transmitter to activate both, a garage door receiver can be purchased that has the same frequency as the Mighty Mule. If the gate and garage are within close range of each other, a two or three button entry transmitter can be purchased to operate the openers separately.
