Why doesn't the Hosts file work with my proxy settings?

Gorilla Design Studio Hosts File FAQ's
Some proxy servers can not be bypassed, unfortunately, and will not work with the Hosts file properly according to Microsoft. This is because of a bug in the programming of the way Hosts is handled by Windows. The work around for this is to add all the entries from your Hosts file into the exclusions section of your proxy settings in Internet Explorer. This would be very time consuming, and is not recommended.

Why doesn't my HTTP proxy work?

gtk-gnutella - The Graphical Unix Gnutella Client
Your HTTP proxy must support the method CONNECT because a normal GET doesn't work with Gnutella connections. This is an extension to the HTTP protocol and mainly supported by SQUID proxies. It's also often deactivated because it might be considered a security problem by your provider. At the moment, the proxy support - also for SOCKS - isn't very good. The developers don't use proxies but if you think you can fix it, we would appreciate your patches.

If the optional PURGE_THRESHOLD (new in v2.4) value is defined and not 0 (zero) then a host will be purged atmost this many times.
