Our only clear finish is for interior use only. We would suggest the transparent wood finish designed for the type of wood you want to coat. (Examples: Cedar/Marine for cedar or teak; Transparent Redwood for redwood.) This indicates overapplication of the wood stain. In most cases, washing the surface with a solution of TSP (Tri-Sodium Phosphate) and water, (with some scrubbing) after seven days drying time, will correct the problem.

Clears with no pigmentation do not offer UV protection or color retention. Our products contain Transparent Iron Oxide pigments which absorb UV radiation while allowing visible light to pass through. This results in a finish that highlights the natural beauty of the wood while still protecting it. This is usually caused by oversaturation of UV Plus for Hardwood Decks on the wood. I prefer to use a large brush or a mop. You want to get large amounts of Stain Solver liquid on the deck surface. Hand pump sprayers often apply too little solution to the surface. If you must use a sprayer, make sure the product has dissolved completely or you will clog the nozzle! Also, be sure you spray on lots of liquid.

Walbernize is a type of wax that has been used on Airstream Plasticoats since the first trailer was coated. Should be applied two times a year, more if you want. It was first used by Airstream when they were transporting trailers. They applied it to the front of the trailer so that when bugs and dirt got attached to the trailer in transit, they could easily clean the coach when it arrived at the dealer lot.

Our clear UV GUARD, UV GUARD II Exterior Wood Finish and UV GUARD Deck & Fence Coating, which are the basis of all of the colored versions of these products, have specific chemical UV blockers and stabilizers, but all logs will age/darken under any non-film forming stain and this will be more noticeable under a clear/transparent stain. Additionally the pigments act as additional sun blockers/reflectors giving a longer life to the finish.

On new homes the two coats of colored stain should be applied immediately after the roof is on, the windows have been installed and the logs cleaned prior to any chinking, if it is a chink style home, to prevent coloring the chinking. The clear top coat and subsequent clear maintenance coats can be applied later.
