You will not have to open your DS (other than removing the battery cover - and if that scares you, just stop right now). However, since you're messing with firmware, it is ENTIRELY possible to turn your DS into a useless brick. READ all the instructions BEFORE attempting. The good news is, there are some folks out there that CAN fix a bricked DS for a minimal fee.
