The social order prescribed by the Qur’an and Sunnah emphasizes the themes of social justice, the responsibility of all Muslims—particularly the wealthy—to care for the less fortunate and oppressed, and the right and responsibility of the Muslim community to defend itself from aggression. Women, orphans and the poor enjoy special protection in the Qur’an.

Like Christianity, Islam permits fighting in self-defence, in defence of religion, or on the part of those who have been expelled forcibly from their homes. It lays down strict rules of combat which include prohibitions against harming civilians and against destroying crops, trees and livestock. As Muslims see it, injustice would be triumphant in the world if good men were not prepared to risk their lives in a righteous cause.

According to Islam, human beings are the noblest creations of God, endowed with consciousness and freedom of choice. The Qur'an states that God has made human beings His trustees or stewards on the earth. Muslims see this world as God's field, and human beings as the farmers and caretakers. Muslims believe humanity's ultimate task is to build a world that reflects the will of God.

Although not mentioned directly in the Bible, there is recorded in the Bible an outline of the Arabic people as the Children of Abraham who inhabited the “eastern country”. The history of the Muslim peoples, therefore, begins with the prophet Abraham and his descendants through Ishmael, his firstborn son. Abraham's first born son by Hagar the Egyptian was Ishmael. It's in the Bible, the Torah, Genesis 16:15, RSV.

Every day, in every greeting, Muslims say to one another "Assalaamu-alaikum," which means "Peace be upon you." Islam means "submission" and a Muslim is "one who submits", but these words come from the same root as "Salaam" (peace).

Islam teaches that Christians, Jews and Muslims are all descended from Abraham and are "people of the book". By that it means that the three religions share the same basic beliefs articulated through their holy books. Muslims hold Jesus and Moses (peace be upon them) in high regard and believe that they were prophets blessed with the power of miracles to show the glory of God.

A justice of the peace is acceptable and binding before God. God accepts the law of the land in which we live. Romans chapter 13, verses 1-7 states our need to be under the authority of our government as long as they do not ask us to violate God’s laws. Because human rights is based on global norms and standards and uses a commonly understood language, it links U.S. social justice work to other worldwide struggles to create a more just world. Rights activists in this country increasingly are aware of the global interconnections between social justice efforts in the U.S.

According to Islam, men and women are spiritually equal beings created from a common origin. All of the religious obligations in Islam are incumbent upon both women and men, such as daily worship, fasting, performing the Hajj, etc. God's mercy and forgiveness apply equally to men and women.

Before discussing any scientific theory from a Muslim perspective, a basic axiom of the Muslim attitude toward knowledge should be understood. The same God Who created the physical universe also revealed scripture as a guidance for human beings. To perservere in times of distress and to call upon God for comfort and strength is an important element in the Muslim lifestyle and worldview.

Muslims believe that everything in the universe, except for some people, is naturally in a state of submission to Allah. The planets move in their orbits, molecules break down and recombine, flowers bloom, spread their seed and die, all in exactly the ways Allah decreed for them. "Islam" means this natural state of submission to Allah. Human beings are born pure, naturally in a state of Islam, or submission to Allah.

The Arabic word 'Islam' simply means 'submission', and derives from a word meaning 'peace'. In a religious context it means complete submission to the will of God.'Mohammedanism' is thus a misnomer because it suggests that Muslims worship Muhammad rather than God. 'Allah' is the Arabic name for God, which is used by Arab Muslims and Christians alike.

Islam may seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world. Perhaps this is because religion does not dominate everyday life in the West today, whereas Muslims have religion always uppermost in their minds, and make no division between secular and sacred. They believe that the Divine Law, the Shari'a, should be taken very seriously, which is why issues related to religion are still so important.
