Career Studies Certificates in Information Systems Technology, Microcomputer Usage and Web Design Specialist are offered through the Information Systems Technology department. The Career Studies Certificate in Information Systems Technology provides those students already employed with increased information technology and operating system skills and knowledge.

The Department Information Technology Coordinator (DITC) performs a critical role on campus as liaisons between Information Technology and their respective departments.

Application Development (Programming) involves the writing and maintaining of detailed programs that list the steps computers must follow to perform their functions. The programs tell the computer what to do, which information to identify and access, how to process it, and what equipment to use. You may apply for entry-level positions as a programmer or programmer/analyst.

When applying for positions, send a professional resume to potential employers. Take workshops in resume writing and in interviewing skills through the Keys to Success Workshops at NOVA. Many IS/IT departments are fully capable of developing Web sites, however, many prefer to hire an outside firm for initial site development or site redesign. The reasons are many: time/budget constraints, lack of artistic ability, benefits of having an "outsider" view the site and process as if a potential customer, benefits of having an "outsider" guide the process with competing departments and interests (e.g. my stuff is more important than their stuff).

In June 2002, USEC and DOE signed an agreement that allows USEC to use DOE gas centrifuge technology and provides a schedule for development of the Lead Cascade and commercial-scale facilities. The Director of IT will review grants that involve technology for use within the district. Review of the grant projects will ensure that technology requested in grant programs will interface technology in place within the district, align with future technology plans and will be supported by the district's IT department.

The mathematics major prepares you for graduate study in mathematics, mathematical physics or a mathematics-related area that relies heavily upon theoretical mathematics. If your career goal is to teach at a college or university or to become a member of a research team in government or industry, for example, you may want to consider this major. The computational mathematics major equips you to enter the workplace directly.

Our department offers one or two graduate assistantships for students per term. Applicants must have completed at least two courses in the program and be registered for two courses during the semester of application (fall or spring) and have a B+ average.
