The Library of Congress is a research library, and books are used only on the premises by members of the public. Anyone over high school age may use the collections. Oddly enough, these are two different libraries. Hunt Botanical Library is the library of the Hunt Institute. Hunt Library is one of the three libraries in the Carnegie Mellon University Libraries' system and is the humanities and social sciences library for the CMU campus. People get these two libraries confused frequently, and the fact that they are in the same building can add to the confusion.

Publishers are stepping forward to offer review copies to panelists. All of the organizers are making lists of which panelists need what books to make that easier. The library gratefully accepts donations of books and audio-visual materials. Donations are reviewed by library staff and are either added to the library's collection or offered for sale at the Library Book Sale, generally held in the spring. Proceeds from the book sales are used to support the collections and services of the library. Gifts may be dropped off at any time at the library's Technical Processing Department.

The Library is a collection of collections. While the main emphasis is on books, the Library also subscribes to more than 2,500 periodicals and newspapers, and provides electronic access to tens of thousands of others; provides access to dozens of over a hundred databases; has thousands of audio and video recordings; houses several special collections; receives U.S. and California State government publications and legal materials; and collects maps, curriculum materials, and juvenile books.

The eight computers along the north wall of the library require you to log in and will allow you to access the same programs and drives that you can access in C Lab. On the rest of the Hunt Library computers, you can obtain access to the F:\ (personal storage) and G:\ (shared storage) drives through ERNIE. Look under the ERAU Tools section to find the NetStorage option. NetStorage refers to the F:\ drive as Home@ERAUNET and the G:\ drive as DriveG@SHARE.
