TRRA has two facilities, both located on Pittsburgh’s northside, on a back channel of the Allegheny river, providing protected access to the water. The original boathouse is located off Route 28 under the 31st Street Bridge, on Washington’s Landing, formerly known as Herr’s Island. This is our newest facility which opened November 2002, in the Millvale Waterfront Park. It, too, is located off Route 28, but near the 40th Street Bridge.

We are located in north central Idaho on US highway 12. We are 99 miles east of Lewiston, Idaho and 123 miles west of Missoula, Montana. We are at milepost 97, at the confluence of the Lochsa, Selway, and Clearwater Rivers. Situated in the Clearwater National Forest, along the Lewis and Clark Trail and Lochsa Wild and Scenic River, we are near the edge of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area.

LMRC's temporary home is 568 Bellevue Ave, Oakland while the Old Boathouse is being renovated. The new site is located adjacent to the Lake Merritt Boating Center. To get to the new site enter the Lake Merritt Park from the main entrance by Children's Fairyland, continue along the main park road and turn into the Lake Merritt Boating Center parking lot. There are few areas of the South Platte River that are good floats in our district due to the shallow river depth and/or rapids and there are several areas along the river that are privately owned. By Colorado law, these property owners can restrict access the the portion of the river than runs through their property. For those desiring to float the river it is important that they check the depth and current of the river in the area they choose and be aware of any property restrictions.

Olympia Area Rowing (OAR) is a rowing club in Olympia, Washington, USA. It has the following mission: "OAR promotes and provides competitive and recreational rowing for adults and youth in the local community, fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, athleticism, and camaraderie."

Rowing is an exciting competitive sport involving skill, teamwork, strength and stamina. It's been a competitive sport in the US since the mid-1800s, and in fact was the first organized collegiate sport in the country. International competition began in 1893, and rowing is part of the summer Olympics. There are teams for girls and boys, organized by skill, and in some cases age and weight.

Rowing is the act of propelling a boat through the water with the use of oars. In a rowing shell the rower sits on a seat that moves both forward and backward. This enables the rower to bend and straighten his or her legs increasing the length of each row or “stroke” as we say. This makes the boat much more effective and faster than a regular rowboat. The rower basically rows using the oars to push the water in front of them causing them to go backwards.

You do not have to have your house plans approved. You do have to follow the building codes found in the restrictive covenants in order to preserve the community’s value and pleasant living environment.

Tennessee is a narrow state, divided into Western, Middle, and Eastern “regions”. Three Rivers Estates is located in the Middle Tennessee region.

In my experience the standard Western sculling oar, which is usually just a single normal rowing oar that is twisted in a figure-eight motion off the transom, is noticeably less efficient than the Chinese yuloh (sculling oar). I believe a yuloh is more efficient for a long haul in calm waters (if there are any waves the yuloh is difficult to keep on its pin and socket) and is the only option for rowing in confined harbors.

The term “boat” refers to a team. Though E. O. Smith has novice boats of eight and Varsity boats of four, it can be eight, four, two, or even a single rower. In addition, most boats have a coxswain (pronounced “cox-n”), the on-board coach who steers the boat (being the only one in the boat who faces forward), and communicates to the rowers through an on-board PA system (the “cox box”) to call out directions and set the pace of the rowers.

Three Rivers Rowing owns kayaks, two dragon Boats, and rowing shells including 8+, 4+, 4x, 2+, 2x and 1x. For indoor training our equipment includes ergonometers (rowing machines), weight rooms with free weights and two rowing tanks. TRRA equipment is provided for most programs for the duration of the program. Annual members, with appropriate certification, may use equipment year-round. Indoor equipment is available during boathouse hours.

Fish from nearly 1000 lakes and streams in Minnesota have been tested for contaminants. The waters that have been tested are not necessarily more contaminated than those not tested. Waters are selected for sampling where angling is popular, where there is a known or suspected pollution source, or where fish contaminant trends are being tracked. A quality rowing machine provides the same exercise as a rowing shell. The difference is largely that rowing a shell is outdoors and on the water. Rowing a real sculler doesn't feel like exercise, it feels like you're boating and having fun. For many people this is the difference between loving to exercise and boating it!

Regatta schedules are published on the NCASRA web site, www.ncasra.org. They may be up on Thursdays, and should be up on Fridays. Coaches will usually hand out schedules on Fridays to the rowers.

Generally, no. You can however hurt your back if you lift a boat improperly or if you row with poor technique. Rowing actually strengthens your back when done properly.
