Digital photography is an exciting technology which has revolutionized the photography industry over the recent years. It is the key reason we can keep our prices so extremely low. With technology advancing we can now produce film quality photos in a fraction of the time as traditional methods. Traditional and digital both have their pros and cons, however, digital is the standard for photography used on the internet.

Both digital photography and film photography have advantages. They both also have disadvantages. Digital photography has several advantages that are especially important in this digital age. Today, it is often not enough to have a few albums, a bunch of wallet sized pictures, and a few 8x10's. Today we want electronic slide shows. We want to put our pictures on the Internet for all to see. Today we want to e-mail pictures to all our friends and family.

I used to photogpraph all my weddings on film and do all the printing by hand in my darkroom. But now that digital photography and digital cameras have become of such fantastic quality I shoot only on digital. The photogpraphs and prints are just as beautiful and in fact often work out to be of an even higher standard due to the incerased flexibility and ease of production and post production that the digital process offers.

Low-resolution digital images can be transmitted instantly via e-mail to anywhere in the world. Large prints can be produced from high-resolution digital images. Graphics and labeling can easily be added to digital images. Digital proof images can be viewed by the client the same day as the flight. Custom cropping, color correction and haze-reduction techniques can be applied to digital images in the "Digital Darkroom".

The features that make a good camera for product photography are not necessarily the features that are important for other types of photography like portraits or everyday family photos. That's not to say that the camera you choose for product photography won't work well for other uses, but you may weight the relative importance of the various features differently.

Digital cameras offer you a very important advantage over film. They give you the capability to see and evaluate your pictures immediately. The downside of digital cameras, though, is that they are not nearly as forgiving of mistakes as film. For example, film has an extremely wide exposure latitude…the amount you can miss your exposure by and still get a good print…that extends from one stop under to three stops over. Digital cameras give you only plus or minus 1/2 stop.

We still have film, but use that as back up. Our digital equipment will allow us to make up to 30 x 40 prints of the same quality that we would get when we shot with our medium format film camera's.

There is no question that some of today's digital cameras can produce an image that is sharper and shows more detail than film.But digital is a very different medium than film and I still feel film has some useful qualities that are not yet present in digital. Also film can always be scanned into a digital format later (the way most Hollywood movies and TV commercials and shows are made.) The critical factor for you should be how good the photographer is at using the medium of their choice.

Digital has made all kinds of art work more available and affordable.

Answer: For many years I was a dedicated film user and was reluctant to switch to digital. With a few Photoshop classes for nature photographers behind me I wish I had made the switch years earlier. Digital cameras and Photoshop are incredibly powerful tools and they will only get better.

The candid/photojournalistic aspects of your Wedding Day will be shot in High Resolution Digital, and you have the option of having your formal/portrait photography shot in Digital as well, or on Medium Format Film. Though I recommend Medium Format for all portrait work, I want to leave that choice up to you. I offer either option at the same price because I don't want cost to be a factor in your decision.

Digital photography is just as good if not better than 35 mm photography. Prints for digital images make beautiful enlargements up to 20 x 30 inches. Digital photography is useful when you will require enlargements larger than 11x14 inches in size. Otherwise, if you are expecting to have enlargements no larger than 11x14 you do not need digital photographs. Both 35mm & digital photographs come out 4x6 inches and will produce fine quality reprints and enlargements up to 11x14 inches in size.
