Dark undereye circles may slightly improve with eyelid surgery, though other procedures like laser resurfacing and chemical peels are better able to treat this.

Generally no. Some people have changes in the pigmentation of the lower eyelids, and other patients have a hollow or tear trough where the eyelid meets the cheek. The typical lower eyelid procedure sometimes needs to be combined with fat or Sculptra injections to help with this hollow. The pigmentary changes may need a bleaching medication, laser treatment or a chemical peel for improvement.

The incision for upper eyelid surgery is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid and extends slightly beyond the outside corner. For the lower eyelid, the incision is also hidden but below the lower eyelashes.

In some cases, Blepharoplasty can change the shape of the eyes by producing a more “open” appearance, or a “rounding” of the slanted appearance of the lids. This usually involves the use of tear supplements and punctum plugs (tiny silicone plugs placed in the tear drainage openings of your eyelid) that delay the drainage of your own tears so your eyes will stay moist.

In general, the impact on your ability to do most activities is limited. You can read, write and use your eyes as much as possible. You should not rub your eyes post-operatively - use artificial tears to relieve irritation. You should wear your protective eye shields at night for at least 1 week and longer if you feel there is any chance of traumatizing your eyes while asleep.

It is suggested that you take off 3-5 days from work after eyelid surgery but refrain from strenuous activity for up to one month after the surgery.
