The deal is that up to 25 people may camp in a group site. Assateague Island National Seashore has five group camp sites available. Group camp sites cost $25 per night. Donations are not actively solicited from people who camp in the sites, but are more than welcome. Talk to your point-of-contact about who to send money to. If there's a group camp site for the event and it's full, don't worry about it. Most of the action happens at the beach party site, not in camp. You won't miss anything.

Yes, we have a group area that has 10 sites called "The Pines ". It's perfect for up to 40 campers and a large site that serves as a campfire area. It also has its own restroom building. There are also a few overflow campsites if more campers show up than expected. We also can accommodate 2 or 3 campsites together if requested for the rest of the campground.

Yes, but only if your site has a fire ring. Otherwise, please share your neighbor's fire ring, and of course don't build fires in the paths. Also, we stock firewood for the big fire in the food area, so please bring some logs from home if you'd like a personal fire. You may be able to buy some firewood from roadside stands as you drive toward OttoFest.

It is the intention of the Award that campsites are as wild as possible. All have clean water available, most have a toilet and some have showers and wash basins. You will be the only people who use the truly wild sites.

Probably. Occasionally a large group of friends is split up due to space restrictions in each camp group. If you specified a particular best friend you wanted to be with you will most likely be placed with that friend. However, if you sign up late for camp and your best friend was in a group that was already full then, unfortunately, you would not be placed in the same group with that friend.

The only way to assure that your group(s) will be camped together is if they arrive together. However, in events where this cannot occur, we strongly encourage you to have the first group to arrive bring ALL of the camping gear for the entire group. The group(s) to follow will be able to park their vehicles in our designated lot. You will want to select a meeting area such as the Registration Tent or Sales Tent in order to bring the entire group together.

Everyone enjoys a camp fire to gather around or the light of a tiki torch to guide them back to camp at night but fire and open flame present a unique set of challenges on the playa. Wind is an ever-present aspect of the Black Rock desert and must be taken into consideration. Winds can blow sparks and embers out of fire barrels and blow them across the open playa great distances until they settle against something (tents, shade structures, camping gear, art works, etc).

These might include bits of artifacts (flakes and tools, bone fragments, fire-cracked rock, pottery sherds, glass, nails) visible in the soil. If the soil has been plowed, searching is somewhat easier; if not, gopher holes often provide a good view of what is buried beneath the surface.

Should there be a large difference in ski levels on a trip, we divide the group among the ski guides so that maximum enjoyment at the right pace is guaranteed. Every landing offers a variety of runs ranging from 1300 to 3000 meters of vertical descent and suitable for every skier.
