You improvise everyday in your life. You make up your dialogue with people at home, work, etc. So do we. We just get paid for it. So 'comedy improv' is when a cast or team of actors/comedians work together to create spontaneous scenes, songs, monologues, interviews, news reports, or anything really. The best part is that its so fun to watch when it's done well.

Few people are 'naturals' at improv. It can be a complicated business -telling a story, acting out a scene, making up dialogue, making your scene partner look good, being funny- all at the same time. We practice much like you would for a sporting event. We work drills to practice basic improv skills like listening to each other, moving scenes forward, justifying, labeling things, etc.

Yes. Heavens yes. We only do it because we love it. It doesn't pay as well as a national commercial, or a film or television show, but it's so fun. Cast members will often try to make each other laugh.

A cast member will ask the audience for a suggestion with a question like "What is your favorite color?" or "What subject did you most hate in school?" Whomever from the audience feels inspired will 'call out' their suggestion from the comfort of their seat. In the event of multiple suggestion (which often happens) the cast member will usually choose the one he/she heard first.

Improv is improvisational theatre—a theater art in which there is theater, but without all of the complications of blocking, scripts, and knowing whose turn it is to talk. There are many flavors of improv, but most are striving for more or less the same goal, namely to create something off the top of your heads that seems as though it was rehearsed. Short answer, yes. Long answer, yeess... The No Parking Players think of ourselves as a teaching organization. We hold workshops twice a week in which we strive for a friendly, fun, supportive environment. All skill levels are welcomed, and many people come to workshops having never done improv before in their lives. We teach you basic skills, discuss scenes at times, and offer constructive criticism or suggestions.

There are two basic forms of improv, long form and short form. Short form is what you see on "Whose Line is it Anyway?" In short form, each scene is separate. A scene begins, continues, ends, and is done. This is often done by playing games which allow for a scene to be done, possibly adding in gimmicks. This also includes less scene-based games like game show spoofs, group games, etc. Most of what NPP does is short form. The other form is, surprisingly enough, long form.

Yes, there are other lists, but their structure and/or organization is a bit more limited than this one (for other lists see the reference page). Basically, for doing improv workshops, we needed something that we could reference per topic, and we found that most improv games/handles belong in plenty of topic categories. This site is, among other things, workshop oriented.

Unquestionably, Improv can enhance any mealtime program. Because, by their nature, these types of presentations have time constraints, we typically present shorter programs that match the requirements of the event. Given this framework, we suggest using Improv as a vehicle for "lightening up" rather than expecting it to accomplish major skill building.

Each and every BATS show is completely improvised--no two shows are alike. It is different from stand-up or sketch comedy as the performers are take audience suggestions and make up the content on the fly. At BATS, we produce improv shows in a variety of different formats: from Theatresports--two teams competing head-to-head in improvised scenes songs and games--to long-form genre shows that are more like an improvised stage play or movie.

Haha, no we never use scripts for the primary blashco movies (Blashco Resurrection and a few others are the exceptions). Everyone in blashco films, acts and directs. We really just film to have a good time, and sometimes the movies turn out good and sometimes they turn out bad. That's life, and this is blashco.

Unfortunately not. All students must start at Level 1, regardless of previous training. This is a rule that is consistent at every i.O. location. Our classes focus on a specific style of improvisation, not just the basics. Each class is tailored to build on principles learned in previous classes. It's a system that's been tested and taught for over 20 years, so we know it works.

Answer: Our games take the most popular improvisation theater activities and adapt them for amateur use in personal parties while incorporating the host-party core features (e.g. email invites, pre-game site, etc).
