Your system supports four different network connection types: Ethernet, direct connect USB, HomePNA, and 802.11b Wireless (if you have a wireless model system). You can connect to your network using any of these connection types. Unfortunately, you cannot. The USB on the empeg is a slave port. You need a USB master to drive the adaptor and the empeg doesn't have one and won't have one. The empeg folks have said that: of the people need a slave device so they can hook it up to their home PC for downloads (and a master can't talk to a master without special additional hardware), and USB master chips usually come attached to a PCI bus - which the empeg doesn't have. Definitely Ethernet in my opinion. USB & PCI ADSL modems use system resources and often have driver issues or can be just plain painful to use & configure and are fairly dreary indeed if you plan on sharing the Internet connection between 2 or more PCs or to make Wireless.

If you are connecting directly to one PC, under windows 98SE, 2000 or XP, either Parallel or USB is usually fine. However, the way XP handles USB devices may cause you to lose the device occasionally. This is because XP assigns virtual USB ports to multiple devices on the same USB bus. If the plotter is switched off or disconnected when the PC is booted up, it may be found later as a new device on a different virtual port, and the driver may need to be installed again.
