In addition to the panoramic view of Heavens Gate, there is a fine view of Hells Canyon from Saw Pit Saddle. From Riggins, travel to this grassing parklike viewpoint is on Forest Road 241 and then onto Road 2060A. Saw Pit Saddle is accessible to vehicles with high clearance. It is not recommended for RVs or vehicles towing camping trailers.

There is really no one view point that is the best for the view of the canyon. West Rim Drive and the East Rim Drive offers excellent views of the canyon and river.

The earlier you arrive, the better your view and the closer you will be to the action. The sound system is set up in the Bowtie area (where Broadway and Seventh Avenue cross), and the video screens on One Times Square (where the Ball is lowered) are easily visible. There are additional screens set up at Broadway and 50th Street, Broadway and 52nd Street, Broadway and 54th Street and Broadway and 58th Street.

Most visitors come to the Canyon from May through September. If you decide to come then, be aware that the high season, while beautiful, means large crowds and parking at a premium. In the off-season from October through April, crowds are minimal and seeing the Canyon with a dusting of snow is worth the trip! Beware that some parts of the park and some services are closed in the off-season.

It is up to the individual on how to see the canyon. Stop at the Grand Canyon Experience Welcome Center desk where you can get information on tour buses, helicopter tours, airplane tours, as well as the mule rides. Depending how much you want to spend and how much time you have it is totally up to the individual.

We do the most Grand Canyon river rafting trips during June, July, and August, when many families plan their vacations. During the summer, daytime temperatures range from 80 to 100 degrees, with a 10 to 20 degree drop at night. The lack of humidity, coupled with frequent swimming or wading, helps keep you comfortable. Temperatures are milder in the spring and fall, but it is still pleasant to be in the canyon. Many wildflowers are in bloom in April and May.

On trips that go to the bottom of the canyon, such as our 8-day Special Trip, 11-day Ultimate trip, 14-day Everything trip, or any of our independent trips to the canyon bottom, we recommend the months of October through March. During the summer months, Batopilas can get very hot, and there is no air conditioning in town.

The only trail where one can hike to the bottom of the canyon in this area is the Seven Mile Hole Trail, a round trip of 11 strenuous miles. None of the shorter trails in the canyon area goes all the way to the bottom.

All of Waterfront Park is open & offers free public viewing for Thunder. The show is so massive that it can be seen almost anywhere. Waterfront Park will have continuous action and interactive attractions from 11 AM until the firework's finale at 10 PM. Along River Road is always a popular place. The entertainment garden of the "Chow Wagon" at Waterfront Park offers live bands for a 2007 Pegasus Pin admission. Jeffersonville, Indiana has changed over the last several of years.

The simplest answer is that most people book their Colorado River rafting trip during the peak periods of the summer, (June-August). Anytime of year is a good time to visit the Canyon. Each season has it's own special rewards. For backpacking and hiking on the south rim the best time of year is early (late September through late November) and mid-spring (April and May). Summers on the south rim are warm and mild but summer in the inner canyon is brutally hot with temperatures well over 110 degrees F (43 C). Winter comes to the south rim by early December and you can expect snow anytime through March.

Typically the afternoon has less haze and the sun hits the canyon just right. Needless to say, it's beautiful at all times but the afternoon is better for pictures.

There are very few. Be prepared to provide your own toilet paper. Where toilets are available, you must use them. Only human waste and toilet paper should be deposited in the toilets.
