Frequently Asked Questions

How do you decide which books should be published in hardback and which in paperback?

W Green
When deciding which format to put a particular book into we carefully consider the nature of the text and who is likely to purchase it. As hardback is more expensive it is unsuitable for student texts. We often put practitioner texts into some form of hardback as this makes them more durable. However, this does have an impact on the price of the work and additionally is only suitable for texts over a certain size.

How (or where) can I get hardback copies of your books?

Robin Hobb's Home
The best way to be sure of getting a hardback copy of the book is to buy it as soon as it comes out. The hardbacks are allowed to go out of print when the paperback copies come out approximately one year later. If you are looking for hardbacks of the older books, then you may find them in used book stores, on Amazon, on E-bay or on Addall.com. If you are looking for hardbacks of the US editions of the Farseer Trilogy, they simply do not exist.
Related Questions

Do you like hardcover or paperback books more?

Rich Geib Frequently Asked Questions
Neither. But I do prefer older books which wear their years on them rather than brand new ones which scream "factory mass production." I like books with personalities.

WRITERSWORLD -The leading UK print-on-demand book publisher.
The text is no problem but we cannot scan a hardcover jacket and produce a paperback cover. In this instance the best option is for WRITERSWORLD to produce a simple cover incorporating the flap text on the reverse and to supply the printer with a digital file of the cover.

Are any Everyman Classics books available in hardback?

ORION PUBLISHING GROUP: Frequently Asked Questions, FAQs: Or...
No, not from us. Some Everyman titles are published in hardback by another company under the imprint Everyman Library, Northburgh House, 10 Northburgh Street, London EC1V 0AT; (020 - 7566 6350). Each year, Orion publishes hundreds of titles and many thousands of copies of these, and usually our books are perfect. Although our books are checked for printing or binding errors, occasionally faulty copies slip through. We are very sorry when this happens.

Most of the books you offer are paperback copies, why is this?

fasbookshelf - FAQ
We are trying to keep our costs as reasonable as possible so we offer what we think the majority of people will want. This means that we purchase the less expensive paperback copy if it is available. Some books only come in hardcover so then we don't have any other option except to offer the hardcover copy. There are some resources where you've listed web addresses so we can get them free, why is this? www.bced.gov.bc.ca/specialed/fas/contents.

RobertSabuda.com: Pop-Up Books
RS: Sometimes pop-up books can be delicate, but that's what makes them so wonderful. The more delicate it is, the more fantastic it usually is. If a parent is concerned about their young children handling a pop-up book, it's the perfect opportunity for them to sit down and SHARE the book with the child, turning the pages carefully. This also teaches a child to respect a book and not treat it like a toy.

Who published the books?

residential contruction, construction defects, contract liti...
We could not find a royalty publisher for Crooked House, because most of them thought the story too local, despite the important lessons it contains (and the fact -- as many have told us -- that it is a "gripping read"). So we published the book ourselves. We did not seek out a royalty publisher for Crumbling Dreams, since we had already set up Lakeside Press by that time.
Related Questions

Why are your books published in the UK before they are published in the US?

Robin Hobb's Home
In different countries and in different languages, my books are published by different publishing houses. They set their own schedules for the publication of the books. If you think about this, you'll see it makes perfect sense. No one publishes a Christmas book in June, for instance. The publisher picks the date he feels will be best for the book and schedules it to be launched then.
