The most common mechanism for resolution on the Internet is the Domain Name System (DNS): http as used in URL is a use of DNS. URLs are grouped by domain name and then by some hierarchical structure, originally based on file trees, now possibly unconnected from that but still a hierarchy. DOI names offer a more finely grained approach to naming where each name stands on its own, unconnected to any DNS or other hierarchy.

Dublin Core aims to be an easy-to-create and maintain descriptive format to facilitate cross-domain resource discovery on the Web. "Qualified Dublin Core" supports the use of DC elements as the basis for extended but simple statements about resources, rather than as a foundation for more descriptive clauses. Complex descriptions may be necessary for some Web resources and for some purposes, such as administration, preservation, and reference linking.

Electronic product codes are identifiers which are articulated through Radio-Frequency Identifier tags or other means, and are assigned to physical goods; increasingly there are proposed applications which would relate such tags to digital networks for the look-up of associated data, such as the "internet of things" envisaged in the Auto-ID project.

Each DOI is associated with a series of metadata, a set of bibliographical and commercial informations concerning the content (title, author, publication date, copyright, price, etc.) and its position within the whole registrant's publishing offer (the belonging of a title to a series, of an article to a serial, the availability of one publication in more formats and/or through different media, etc.).

You may put a DOI name anywhere you like. A DOI name may be printed or made explicit within a digital object; or it may be hidden by e.g. underlying a hyperlink. Therefore it can either appear as a DOI name, or the user may never know that a DOI name has been used to "power" her transaction.

Every DOI name is associated with one or more Application Profiles (APs). APs, which will themselves be identified by DOI names, are abstractions used to group DOI names into sets in which all DOI names of the given set, or AP, share a metadata schema, business rules for DOI name assignment, and other common characteristics. An AP consists of at least a set of structured metadata elements, plus some rules (policy, business and procedural rules, not all necessarily automated).

The need for persistent identifiers is well recognised in many areas (particularly from the library, archives, and government communities), but the next step (adopting a practical implementation such as DOI names) is not yet so readily comprehended.

Formally, RL is unrelated to behaviorism, or at least to the aspects of behaviorism that are widely viewed as undesireable. RL of course is all about the algorithms and processes going on inside the agent. For example, we often consider the construction of internal models of the environment within the agent, which is far outside the scope of behaviorism.

Melatonin levels decrease with age and this deficit may play an important role in the high frequency of insomnia among elderly people. Percolation is an arrangement of parts (usually visualised as a matrix) such that a property can arise that connects the opposite sides of the structure. DNS stands for Domain Name System, or a large system which answers questions about DNS lookups. If you host a domain with rydia, whenever anyone in the world punches your domain name into their browser, the browser will need to figure out what IP address our server has. So it asks its local DNS server, which doesn't know, then asks the root DNS servers, which don't know, which then ask our DNS server, which tells them what it is.

A DOI name can be used to identify any resource involved in an intellectual property transaction. Intellectual property includes both physical and digital manifestations, performances and abstract works. An entity can be identified at any arbitrary level of granularity. DOI names can be used to identify, for example, text, audio, images, software, etc; and in future could be used to identify the agreements and parties involved.

A DOI name prefix (for example, 10.1000/) enables a registrant to assign many DOI names, by building on the prefix to construct a range of unique identifiers (10.1000/abc, etc). To obtain a prefix, you need to work either with a Registration Agency or, for experimental or prototype purposes, with the International DOI Foundation. Working with a Registration Agency (RA) brings with it the advantages of participation in a defined DOI System application with others.

A defined result from a defined action i.e., do X and the result will be Y. DOI System services perform specific functions when presented with data from Application Profiles. Services exchange data, share tasks, and automate processes over the Internet by using the information associated with a DOI name. The term was coined in analogy to "Web services": for DOI System applications on the Web, DOI System services would be Web Services.

A prefix, which is issued by a registration agency to a single publisher, begins with "10.", followed by a number, then a "/"; A suffix, which must be unique within the prefix. (The registration agency will ensure uniqueness before the DOI is registered.) Some agencies generate a suffix automatically, whereas other agencies, including Nielsen BookData, require the suffix to be determined by the registrant. This allows publishers to integrate their DOIs with other systems and identifier schemes.

There are several categories of drugs for the treatment of Parkinson's, and it is thought that there may be a connection between some dopamine agonists (one class of drugs that can be used to treat Parkinson's) and the incidence of compulsive behaviour. To a first approximation, Reinforcement Learning and Neuro-Dynamic Programming are synonomous. The name "reinforcement learning" came from psychology (although psychologists rarely use exactly this term) and dates back to the eary days of cybernetics. For example, Marvin Minsky used this term in his 1954 thesis, and Barto and Sutton revived it in the early 1980's.

Broadly speaking, RL works as a pretty good model of instrumental learning, though a detailed argument for this has never been publically made (the closest to this is probably Barto, Sutton and Watkins, 1990). On the other hand, the links between classical (or Pavlovian) conditioning and temporal-difference (TD) learning (one of the central elements of RL) are close and widely acknowledged (see Sutton and Barto, 1990).

Most work with genetic algorithms simulates evolution, not learning during an individual's life, and because of this is very different from work in RL. That having been said, there are two provisos. First, there is a large body of work on classifier systems that uses or is closely related to genetic algorithms. This work is concerned with learning during a single agent's lifetime (using GAs to organize the components of the agent's mind) and is in fact RL research.
